Improvised Shelter
It says I can store things in it... does it act like an immobile backpack?

It requires a shelter kit, and 4 long sticks and 50 regular stick, right? I'm reading it correctly? How long does it last? Can other players destroy it?

I haven't really seen people talk about this , i didn't even know about this. Its generally easier to live as a nomad. like most player built buildings. you can probably destroy it.

i imagine its like a immobile tent. with 100 slots. im not sure why people hoard stuff they don't really need. but its your life as a survivor. it probably needs some kind of interaction to make sure it doesn't despawn after a while. probable every few days or so depending on the server you play.

It acts like a tent and should last up to 2 weeks. If you place a flag pole with a flag on it it will last up to 45 days.
You can also craft one using a tarp or leather. Beats having to have 50 sticks.
Tarp is quite easy to find.

A shelter is quite easy to craft and it does indeed act as a immobile backpack with 100 slots. Other players can destroy the shelter if it is empty, it has the same features as tents to be unpacked but it will become a pile on the ground and not everything is regained. A shelter will lose a long stick and some tarp, leather, wood if you take it down. I play on official servers. I think a shelter last 7 days on official servers and the timer resets if you keep visiting your shelter, I have one in my base to store firewood, it is cozy.

An easy way to quickly build a stick shelter is to have an empty backpack and just run around to gather and carry a bunch of stacks in the backpack. It is the same with when you build a base with planks, fill your backpack with planks instead of carrying logs or planks in your hands if you need many, it speeds things up.

I like the woody one because I feel like it would blend in better. Still not entirely convinced I'll make one, but it's an option... need somewhere to store some of the random stuff I have that might be useful lol

The crafted stick shelter is really easy to hide and blends in really well. Better than the other craftable shelters. Its great if your going to be in and around the area for a while and have no other storage options

The wooden stick shelter is excellent. If well placed, it's practically invisible within dense woodland. I simply cannot be arsed to build a base. A few of these together and you've got plenty of storage for a few backup weapons, ammo, and some other bits and pieces. You know, enough to stop the crushing sense of futility that this game inevitably brings when your fully geared character is shot in the head because you decided not to murder on sight... :)

Forget the tarp / animal skin ones. Stick shelter for the win.

Maybe I'll put one up then lol. Does it keep you dry in the rain?

Yes, it's one of the best uses for improvised shelters. Just remember, it only lasts 7 days without interaction.

Yeah, I just found that out...

Annoying. As I have a few dotted around. Wish they would change that. 45 days seems more sensible...

The wooden shelter in my opinion is the best to use in dense woods it blends in very well if placed correctly, I’m playing on official and has helped immensely with storage. I’ve built 2 and even have a generator hidden in-between them with wooden containers I’ve tried from all angles to see if I can spot my shelter but it just blends in too well with its surroundings even up close and yes lasts upto 7 days if u haven’t visited the shelter(s).

Love reviving old post.

I had one for those in a very secluded patch of woods for three months before the wipe for 1.23 patch. Every few day would spawn in and move one thing out and back in and be good for seven more days if i wasn't on a loot run or causing havoc some place.. Now i keep my interest very mobile.... LOL
