Burning to death?

Now whenever I try and cook food the temp starts flashing red. Even if i run up tograb cooked food then run away real fast.
How am I supposed to sit and roast a damned fish on a stick if im getting cooked myself and when did that become a thing? ?? ?

I even tried getting soaked in the ocean first, normally that cools you off QUICK but now now.
Do I need to strip naked before I can cook?? Can I only cook with pot and stand 50 feet away? What gives

You are in front of a blazing campfire. You are probably wearing heavy clothing with high insulation. Go figure. It still needs some tweaking. The insulation system is primitive.

Right....but it NEVER used to be like this. I used to be able to cook items on a fire no problem, many items... several chicken breast at a time.
And like I said, I just run up, grab the cooked food, drop it, put raw food on and run back and im instantly flashing red again.

It makes no sense. All I had on was a pea coat, boonie hat, jeans and boots. I stripped off everything, even gloves and still wasnt even able to sit down to start cooking the food before the temp is flashing red.

IDK what the hell is going on but its not normal. Ive played 3000 hours and never seen this before

They are making changes to insulation and fire heating up an area. Also different burning materials seem to heat differently.
They are still in the process of tweaking so we have to be patient.

I guess this is a thing since they extended the heat radius of fires.
but what gives if you're briefly flashing red when replacing the grillables...it's just important to put hot stuff on the ground first to let it cool off and not directly in your pockets.

Maybe u have to much backed/hot food in your inverntory. That heats u up. Or an hot Pot / Pan. + the fire will burn u.

So what if you're flashing red? It damages you very very slowly. Just dont mind it. You will regenerate that damage in no time when you're done cooking. Just ignore it.

don't bother he wont listen to you, its a bug same thing happens with barbed wire sometimes, but instead of burning you get keep getting cut even when you move away

If you’re putting the cooked food in your own inventory it’ll overheat you. Once you’re overheated, cooling will take a long time. Keep the food in a container on the ground until it cools, or carry in hands.

I've had to move around a bit to be able to cook on a stick with the primitive campfire and not overheat - but it can be done. With campfires, fireplaces, ovens and stoves the edge of the player heatup zone is where it first shows up in Vicinity - the logs and items in it will have the circle w/line indicating they can't be accessed. Move in a bit more and that circle w/line goes away and you can grab the cooked items when they are ready. Play with it a bit and watch the temp arrows go up and down depending where you're standing. Once you get the heat buff + sign the player heats up really fast. I've taken to timing it as I got tired of jumping in and out of the zone to check if the food was cooked (I smoke most of my stuff which is about 2 minutes).
