how to use matches

I have a campfire built... have rags for kindling installed... have a box of matches in my hands...

how do I use them? I get no options when holding the matches

u need kindling (rags, bandages, bark or papers work) and fuel (sticks or wooden logs). try again with the matches then and u should get an option to light the fire (holding left mouse key while looking at the fireplace - sometimes u need a weird angle to light it).

You need to look at the fireplace and it has to be dry. ^And yes combustible fuel...

I have all those things. Crafted campfire from log and stick... put it on floor. Then I put rags into the "kindling" spot. I'm in a shed and dry and so are the matches. I hold match box in my hands and point at the fire and get no options to do anything except to "take" the fire kit


ok that was the problem... can't light it inside a shed

you can't make fire on the ground indoors anymore (only if the ceiling is 5 meters+ or so).
take the firekit and put it outside or in the fireplace of another house.

Most of the towns will have houses with fireplaces you can attach fires too. I almost always go indoors now to light up. Two of the maps I play are Snow covered though so you get used to having to adjust for heat/warmth. Cooking meat 1 at a time on a stick is a PAIN.

You cant light it indoors anymore, need to carry that campfire outside. Then you need to jump around it to find a spot where the option will appear, you also have to be very close to it, so be carefull not to burn yourself. Also i think you can start the fire with only kindling and no fuel. Ofcourse it wont burn for a long time that way, but i think it will burn for some time.
