2. Find a chicken. They are usually near towns and villages, and can easily be identified and found by their sound
3. Kill it with a melee weapon or even your hands, harvest it and take the chicken steak.
4. Harvest some bark from trees by using the knife (or similar equipment).
5. Get a couple of wooden sticks and a long wooden stick by harvesting small bushes.
6. Combine the sticks and bark from your inventory to make a basic campfire. (works with sticks + rags, bandages, or paper, as well.
7. Combine bark and wooden sticks to make a hand drill kit to light the fire.
8. Combine the long wooden stick with the knife to sharpen it and equip the meat to it.
9. Interact with the campfire using the stick, Let the circle spin one and voila. Food.
You can also get food by:
- Take the bones from the chicken.
- Get lucky and find a rope or craft one by combining 2 rags.
- Get another long wooden stick.
- Dig up a few worms by looking at the ground and interacting using the knife.
- Craft a simple fishing rod by combining the long wooden stick and a rope.
- Combine the chicken bones and the knife to craft a bone fishing hook.
- Combine the bone fishing hook with the worms to attach it and equip it to the improvised fishing rod.
- Start fishing by interacting with the improvised fishing rod near water and wait for a catch.
- Repeat step 3 - 9.
You can use the DayZ Wiki to search up how to craft different items, or of course learning by doing.
Hope this helps.
this is kind of cheating buuuuuuuuut. if i find a town that has useless stuff in the houses. i grab it and throw it out of the house and move on to the next one repeating the process. then i go back to the first house and log out, grab some food and come back. the removal of items from the house (in my exp) seems to have stuff pop back in faster and spawning something more useful.
You are too impatient, chicken will cook if you put it on the grill (don't put it in the fire). Make sure you wear gloves or wash your hands after killing chickens or you will get sick.
You need to cut up pumpkins so you can eat them, you cant eat a whole raw pumpkin without cutting it up first.
Finding several chickens before you head inland for better loot can ensure your survival
What you describe is loot cycling. CLE changes in 1.09 were made specifically to prevent it, and in some community server it could even earn you a ban.
Simple play like canned food does not exist, and see it as bonus if you loot them.
Or into a survival game, like it is sold.
Players do survive on servers with harsh weather, 4x faster metabolism than vanilla, no food/drinks in zombie loot, rare canned food, only 2 piece of meat and 1 bone per animal, no fruits, less veggies, rly rare mushrooms, dried out wells.. cant really see any food problem on vanilla.
