What to do when it rains?
So I play a server on day z and it rains OFTEN. It's nice immersion because it adds to the atmosphere and makes me take shelter and wait it out... But it seems like it rains often and I'm just stuck in a house for like 10mins faced with two options:
a) wait it out
b) log out and come back later.

Anyone else have the same dilema?

Best time to loot..
Run in the rain regardless once you are well fed and hydrated it's not that bad. Maybe stop every now and then to start a fire and dry off/warm up. You could also get fire fighters gear you won't get as wet.

How often would you stop to start a fire and dry up?

Get a patrol uniform because that will keep your chest and legs dry so you will only have to worry about your head, hands and feet getting wet.

check your clothes - if they're wet or even soaked it's time to wring them out.
this doesn't take much time and you can do it every so often.

starting a fire makes sense if your body temperature is already constantly in the dark blue (losing health) or if some of your equipment that can't be wrought out is soaked.
to dry those items you have to take them off and place them around the fireplace.

the goal is to keep your clothes damp at worst, thus you'll not get sick.

so you wont get sick on damp?

well, at least the chances to get sick are drastically reduced.

in general it depends on your immune system if you get sick or not.
as others have mentioned, when your immune system is maxed out you can run for hours in the rain getting even soaked and it'll do you no harm besides some shivering.
but if your immune system is very low, even damp clothes might be enough to catch a cold.

It's quite simple actually, you can light up fire anytime and dry off yourself, you can wring your clothes and keep them damp. Keep yourself well fed and hydrated and you won't get flu.

This.

When you get your priorities right it is not so difficult any longer.

First thing after spawning make sure you fill up enough on water and food before heading inland. At first you may find this difficult but once you know where to look for the basic stuff it´s all smooth sailing from that point.
Try to kill, if not stealth kill as many zombies as you can (one at a time, don't be a hero) in the beginning as they will provide you with food. Lately it's been quite easy to find fruit under trees and chickens. Skin them, make a hand drill, insanely easy if you have any kind of knife or better. Don't forget to wash your hands!

When you get cold enough to start losing health otherwise only when you need to cook food.

If you wear highest/best insulation clothing you don't ever have to worry about being wet/cold unless you're on a winter Chernarus or Namalsk server. Hunters pants/hunter jacket aren't hard to find at deer stands and shacks. Firefighter gear is a great place to start if you spawn in a city.

Agreed. If you are healthy rain is really not a prob. Get the heat buff and be on your way. Rain makes your footsteps softer so sneak attacks are hell of a lot easier. PLUS, if you sit out because of rain, You are sitting out like 40% of your game time.

thats not a dilema at all, you can bring with you Vitamine pills, cough medicine or thetracine, that warmer kit from hunting houses, or simply cook food and you instantly get warmer enough to get outside on the rain. I understand your point, in this game when starts raining can be raining for hours... its too much but in the rain you barely can hear steps so for some players its good for pvp but if rain is a dilema for you then you dont know how it is in Namalsk map where you get snow in 95% of the map and you can die from freezing and get hypotermia (hypotermia makes you never reach maximum Health letting you at maximum of 80% of your health never more than that for the rest of your game unless you die), and you need to unfrost the food because it gets freeze, you need make a firecamp every 30 minutes xD hehe
