UNLESS you're playing on some modded server where everything is different.
I'm not saying you die from the cold, but, yes, it "KILLS" you.
I am getting a cold in 15 freaking real life minutes from a fresh spawn.
I spawned in Electro, ran to Kamyzhovo b/c I have a stash near there. Cold bug by the time I get there. NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED.
Spawn in Solnichy. Run to Berenzino docks b/c I want nails for a project. Find a coke in a boat on the way. Cold bug by the time I'm at the docks. NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED.
Spawn in the forest above Balota. Hurray! Loot Balota, oops getting hungry, better get to town and find food. Cold bug by the time I make to the first houses. NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED.
It's just not worth it to begin a run with a cold. Less time consuming to commit suicide and start over.
I am not complaining about the effect of the cold. The sneezing, dehydration etc is done well.
I am complaining about the ease with which I am getting sick. Yes, by the time I am well fed and warm this isn't an issue, but for a starting run, or a new player evaluating this game.....
If that is what the pros do, I will do it.
If I have to hang out in a house and wait for rocks to spawn so I can get a rock knife and get the heat buff before I try to even leave the coast -- I'll do that.
Is that what the pros do?
Is this a thing, that you get a cold 18% of the time before you get to your first city unless you get a heat buff?
And i dont know what pros do 🙃
So, I'm not whiny.
I'm starting this thread cuz it seems wrong. I kinda wanna hear people either confirm or deny that this is really happening.
I guess its too crappy to be believed lol. Do others have this? --Just look down 15 min into a new game and go, "oh, there's that cold symbol again -- guess I find/use stashed tetra or kill myself...hmmm....."
I would make a fire as soon as my temp goes dark blue.
A sledgehammer or pickaxe can mine stones for stone knives, but many tools now do the same job. For instance a hacksaw will cut bark from a tree to make a fire.
At spawn you have a low immune system so sickness can be easy to catch. The quickest and simplest way to raise your immune system is to fill up on water, then food. I check sheds for tools, fruit trees, and greenhouses on the quickest/safest route to the pump. I fill up my stomach on water, loot the nearby buildings/fruit trees while my stomach empties, and then return to the pump to fill up again, repeat until full water. Then its off to the next town via any possible food sources.
I am running off towards my shelters and stashes where I have food and clothes and I guess its that simple.
I'm just jogging straight to my shelter and getting sick.
It's too easy to get sick.
Oh well.
I will just think of it as a condition of the worldwide infection -- the same thing that makes us spawn INSANELY hungry -- and adapt.
Thanks for the responses.
Fill up on water first. With luck you could find a couple of medium insulation items on route to keep you out of the dark blue (hypothermia), or even a small snack, or maybe a tool to get a fire going. It could make all the difference depending on how far your shelter is.
With a bit of experience a player can be full of water and food in about an hour from spawning. This makes getting sick very hard to do because it maxes out your immune system. :)
This is hands down the BEST explanation/example. Bar none. I’ve been playing for a solid week, learning certain mechanics, certain areas, specific features such as the food/hydration and infection metres.. all of it is hyper engaging and tedious to maintain. As this guy states, it’s not worth it to run with a cold. I’ve been trying to figure out why my last couple lives were death to nothing beyond a cough, sniffling and sneezing.. it’s a damn flu! Smh for real, it’s not an immediate death sentence, but the time it would take to invest in even a campfire isn’t worth it. Considering as soon as you leave the fire area, you begin to sniffle and cough again. The only thing that USUALLY helps, is tetra, but good frickin luck finding THAT as a fresh spawn. Follow this guy, suicide that run and start anew.. keep doing it until either 1) you don’t spawn in a coastal area where the air temps are already low due to ocean climate, 2) it’s not at all raining or drizzling.. and 3) this one is the main.. DONT SPAWN FRESH AT NIGHT. The clothes you get are NOT rated for night spawning. It’s a crap dynamic from the devs because that pretty much ensures every fresh life at night is a death sentence. You’re literally better off playing on servers with the day cycle currently active, or waiting to get on your choice server when the night cycle passes. It’s BS if you ask me, but it is what it is and it’s just a part of the game…
sounds again like a skill-issue.
i dunno what people expect when they play a survival game.
u spawn dehydrated and starting to starve already. fix that first. dont do as the guy u replied to.
he spawns: instantly runs from elektro to kamishovo... for a stash...
he spawned again : his first mission was to run from solnichny to berezhino (because he needed nails??). yea u should not do that as a freshie.
next spawn he is in balota he wants to loot it, but has to go back to cherno for food?
well, he had all he needed to survive in balota already.
u will always spawn in the coastal area on chernarus. it actually has warmer temps than in the north of the map.
a coomon cold is easy to fix, by just having your stats for food, water, health and blood on a high level.
You dont even need antibiotics to cure it just high insulation cloths, and keep your food and drink stats high for a good amount of time, you will naturally defeat the cold.
If you put as much time into learning how to defeat the cold, instead of deciding its a death sentence, so trying to cheese your way around it. Then you would realise its no biggie, it can last for a while but its perfectly managable even as a fresh spawn.
Survival is about overcoming adversity, not giving in to it :)
