Do sterilised bandages and rags prevent infection 100% of the time?
Or can the wound still get infected from combat even if you use a sterilised bandage/rag? Also, you can't really help a wound once it's already infected with alcohol, right? I tried to and I couldn't. I'm assuming the only cure is antibiotics (tetracycline?) at that point.

I have been infected by a zombie cut when I was 100% full health and it ended up killing me even though I bandaged with disinfected bandages. Nothing worked, not antibiotics, vitamins, resting etc just a slow, drawn out death. Disinfected bandages / rags should keep you safe from infections that you would get from infected bandages and rags. Lol, depressing story but I hope that helps ;)

I've not been infected from combat. Only when using rags/bandages that were not disinfected. Disinfected bandages work every time, though combat can sometimes damage the bandages which will require them to be disinfected again.

Wound infection has two stages

The first stage can be disinfected straight from the bottle of iodine/disinfectant/alcohol

The second stage requires only Tetracycline

IT should but make sure you have more than one dose of it.

The desinfected state disappears if the stack gets damaged. Were you playing vanilla?

Yes playing vanilla, the bandages were not damaged, I checked after I got sick. Just unlucky I guess.

After the update I thought I had contracted a wound infection because the disease symbol appeared and I started grunting like I had a wound infection. This happened even though I had not been scratched by a Z.

Later I realised that it was Salmonella. .....salmonella now causes light pain.....
This game is pathetically bad. I mean what, does it have a single developer? Why are they screwing the pooch so much?

Actually I kinda think it is better this way. If SHTF for real, infection could absolutely kill your arse. Now that it just means I always loot meds when I find them.

well this mechanic is obviously intended to make you a lot more careful when dealing with zombies (stealth attacks, crouching to minimise noise, avoidance).

so yes, it is more challenging, not as fast paced any more, more survival(ish).

I like it. when one has enough experience it won´t be that hard any more.
As far as I know zombies can't get you infected, you're immune, that's why you're alive in the first place. Now...wounds are a different matter. Gotta set your priorities, survival > pvp.

Sterilised bandages will prevent wound infection 100%, at least from my experience.

Also yes, tetra should cure bacterial infections including cholera, salmonela...for flu you need to keep yourself warm, well fed and hydrated and multivitamins. Keep chugging those if you have them if you're sick, vision blurring, fever.
