worse $49.99 i spent
anyone else feels like this game is set up just for you to die just for the hell of it?
i have died 124 times and just purchased the game about a month and a half. i have died every time due to being sick or running out of food and water, 3 times i've died by other players( one killed me while i was cooking food...sniped me from an unknown location while i was on the beach, one tied me up after asking for help, and the other killed me by attacking me while i was tending to my 4month old). its already hard finding items to survive but theres no way to avoid other players if they have guns to kill you at a distance. i dont mind pvp but this game is too hard to just be considered as such. agree or disagree?

you first have to learn about the game and all the mechanics - like all the things that make you sick and how you can quickly find a cure if it happens anyways - but if you know how it works, you can avoid ever getting sick. The main reasons for getting seriously sick is food poisoning or salmonella - either by eating something off, raw meat or by drinking/eating with bloody hands, which you will have after slicing up a chicken or something like that. If you have bloody hands, wash them in a water body or with a water bottle before eating or drinking something. Either way, Tetracycline is the cure for most diseases - you can find it in hospitals and infirmarys of any kind. Activated Carbon is for poisonings, but just don't eat something that's off and you won't ever need it.
then you have to learn how and where to move and act to avoid conflicts with other players. of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ course you will get shot when you cook food out in the open on the damn beach, you are visible from miles away there. if you want to make a fire for cooking food, either go into the woods far away from any settlements, ideally into a ditch so your fire isn't so easily visible; or go into a building with several floors, close the doors behind you and ideally make the fire in a room without windows. even if somebody comes in because he noticed the fire or smoke or just by coincidence, you will hear him opening the doors and can prepare for him. Before entering a settlement, take your time to get a good overlook into it and scout for a while. don't just run in like a headless chicken.

generally, you should just loot the settlement you spawn closest to for food, drinking a lot at a well and with a bit of luck, a gun - but the gun does not have the highest priority. especially, you should not stay for long in the big shore cities like elektro or cherno, they usually are full of freshspawns and therefore sadly also magnets for spawnkillers. basically as soon as you got enough food to survive it, you should move away from the shore and further into the map - you'll find more and better loot there. keep moving through woods, bushes and so on, try to avoid walking through open fields and NEVER walk on the roads. use a headset and turn up the volume - this helps spotting players or avoiding them; especially when you hear gunshots, as a bambi you shouldn't go where they came from. also keep away from the airfields and bigger military compounds in the beginning - yes, there's a lot of good loot there, but you will likely die because that's the prime fighting arena for all the geared up players.
And a little tip: if you find a waterproof backpack and a shovel, you can put items into the backpack, lay it down on the ground and bury it. This way, you can protect some of your valuable items from being lost when you die even when you're not able to build a proper base. But you should select the spot carefully, since the little dirtpile it shows is also visible for other players, which can then also dig it out if they have a shovel too.

Im sure you'll find a proper guide for all the important things to know about DayZ that I could never all fit into this post. My main advice for you is, be patient with this game and don't get frustrated so easily. It takes time, because yes, it is very hard - especially for a beginner. And that is exactly why DayZ is such a good game. There aren't many games with so much adrenaline involved in basically every minor activity. The challenge and the always lingering fear of losing everything is what makes this game so intense.

Full price for a seven year old game!

Starting off is rough, arguably the second toughest thing to building a base solo.

Watch some tips to survive. Always use an external interactive map with loot spawns. Shift+Tab and have it up if you don't have a second monitor. Personally I immediately search for a knife in hunting stands and then find an animal (inland if I need to) and cook said animal. Then it's a matter of navigating from water pump to water pump until you find a water bottle and mediocre gear to go for.

Don't cook your food near the shoreline, don't cook outside, the smoke plume is a dead giveaway, if you are starving try to do it in the woods.

Alternatively you can readily craft a knife with two small stones from the shoreline or railroad tracks.

The hardest parts for me early game are finding something sharp to cut an animal with. Zombies have a chance to drop food if you're desperate.

If you need to hone these skills I recommend using a no/low pop server with decent enough ping. Medium and high pop servers have much less loot left to take and provide more encounters.

dont play on official servers, this game is terrible vanilla i recommend ELITE SURVIVAL, its a way better experience than official servers, food and water drain rates are reduced DRAMATICALLY you don't need to eat or drink often, you have infinite sprint, theres a map, theres a group system, theres traders and an economy where you can sell stuff and make money to buy gear, theres more cars and helicopters, and theres 5x the loot in the world

theres a point when intense turns into aggravating game mechanics, this game is WAY too hardcore the core game is great but food drains way too quickly and water is 2x that, theres no map and using an external map works fine but its hard when you only have one monitor thats why i prefer community servers that tone the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ down so i can still have fun while playing a toned down but still semi hardcore survival game

Look up some tips online, once you get the hang of it vanilla survival is quite easy. If still don't like it try boosted loot servers.

This sounds like the exact opposite of elite survival.

Yes sweety. I feel you. The difference is that I love it. I just wish there were more ways to die. Struggling to survive is what this game means to me. No one survives. We are not special. We are just another sack of decaying meat searching for a meaningful purpose in a futile struggle.

How will we cope with it? Shame its so easy! :P

@Nodeninja Agreed!

Wish I could say "that"....

plenty worse things I've spent that much money on

Just wish the game was like 15$ then maybe it would be worth getting but for 45$ i'm not buying it Dayz is not worth the price for how bare bones it looks

This game was never meant or be easy so of course there will be tears of someone that wants an easy game
You died 124 times in 6 weeks of having the game? No wonder you're frustrated; make some friends, hook up with a Vet and run with them for a few weeks, you'll learn pretty quickly.
Axel Sep 18, 2020 @ 4:48am
If it is too hard, maybe you should try real life surviving alone in the woods with only a stone
Good luck and you had better play on modded server
It is more fun, i even managed to make myself a base and store some loot

Something that changed the game for me OP, maybe will do same for you....

When your food metre says full visually, its nowhere near full. I ate like 15 wolf steaks on top of that and still didnt get the full stomach icon. Then i didnt have to eat for literal hours ingame, so now i just stuff myself full of food even when its says full. Before that id eat to fill it, then it would be dropping again in 10 mins :)
