Nothing else needs saying, ADA (other then storage) is by far the best of all vanilla vehicles.
Only because they don't handle like you want them to doesn't mean they are crap. 🙄
Let's see, DZ cars, when you drive them they make a noise like dragging a metal bath filled with lead on a tar road, getting in and out of them is mind numbingly idiotic; look at just the right spot on the door, F to open the door, look at just the right spot on the seat and F to get in, then, F (Just at the right spot) to close the door. What about just F? Jebus. They are practically without power; the slightest incline slows them down, or even stops them altogether if you don't have a good turn of speed. When you want to move forward on an incline the stupid thing runs backward, same for reverse. They get stuck on tree stumps, yes, you can drive them onto the tree stump, but not over or off of it. If you hit an object at 1 km/h, the impact sounds like a bomb going off. (This might have been changed lately). They seem to be constructed of tinfoil they damage so easily. If you drive too fast on a slightly populated server, the car would suddenly swerve and crash spectacularly. When it rains, it's even worse, and the wheel spin is insane.
Sorry bud, DZ cars are probably the worst aspect of this game, and also the best, depends on your point of view. You just have to drive a vehicle in literally any other AAA game to see what I'm on about. It's due to this inability of the Devs to improve the cars and their horrible physics, that I'm letting my server subscription run out, and walking away from Vanilla for a while.
What if i want them to handle like real cars? Then can i call them crap:D
I gotta side with the other guys here, everything feels wrong, from acceleration, to braking, even the way the tach jumps up and down as the revs rise.
TIP -
If hills are slowing or stopping your car, are you using Shift to put your foot down? Yep that Arma 2 thing is still there, W is a half pedal push, Shift+W is foot all the way down so much more agressive acceleration. Once i realised i havent been stopped by a hill since :)
Yeah, the shift key power booster changed car functionality by a level of magnitude. It's embarrassing how long it was in the game before I 'discovered' it
That, btw, is one of DayZ's features.
Game Mechanic / Player Ignorance / Effect: Increases Difficulty / Level of effect ranges from Annoying to You Are Dead
I'm very well aware of the W+Shift function.
Just happened twice on a really short drive and now im worried its gonna kill me and my shiny new nvg lol
EDIT These things are totally broken... iv been up in the air... under the map twice. No idea how im still alive but this isnt good for my heart rate, may just leave vehicles for now.
Seems to get worse with more weight, never saw it as a shell, saw it a bit with doors, and now im full of loot and its going bananas :(
I shut off engine and shift to neutral. and wait it out. It usually works.
If the cars handled anything like a modern car then they would seem wrong to me. Going fast down a hill in old world cars, heading towards a corner, used to mean a lot cadence braking and downshifting to keep a vehicle under control, and then you got to the corner and the body roll felt like driving a ship. Anitlock brakes, power assisted steering, independant suspension, were not invented when I last drove a Lada in the 80's.
Sure there are issues with cars, mainly based around server performance and connection. I also agree with some points on the sounds and interactions. but I find that when everything is working how it should the cars feel as dangerous and life threatening as old cars used to be.
