Crosshair overlay - Allowable or against terms & conditions?
Here on Steam is a video capture application that enables overlays. While the base product allows for overlays such as system metrics (cpu, gpu, mem etc), streaming data (twitch or discord chat), a DLC is available to apply a crosshair overlay.

From my vague memory, any application that provides an on-screen crosshair are against the terms of service for many games, including DayZ...
I've not been able to find any further info on this, and my memory could easily be wrong. Could anyone point me in the direction to confirm if this is allowable, or provide any advise on if this is permissible?

I would like to run the capture software and use overlays. I can see a use in other games (local, non-pvp) where a clear centre of screen would be more user friendly. What I do not want to end up with is a VAC ban on DayZ!

Thanks =)

I would probably ask this one on the official DayZ forums, which annoyingly will mean having to sign up

Though if I took an educated guess I would say that like any other game it would be at your own risk. Many devs will not specifically ban you for changing files such as custom icons etc but the devs will make it clear that if it triggers the anti cheat solution and you get banned they will not be able to help you.

Official forums sound like a solid idea, cheers Ted. =)

I believe both VAC and BattleEye are in use on Standalone.

It's in the VAC list: https://store.steampowered.com/search/?category2=8

If the software is an issue, it will be blocked by BattlEye at loadup. Your best bet is to ask BattlEye on their support website. As far as i know, overlays are not cheating as long as they dont tap into the game's memory or dont offer an unfair advantage if they do. You could whenever you want draw a static crosshair on your screen and nobody could stop you from doing it. But the thing is, in DayZ, there is an aiming dead zone, so the croshair is almost never on center, so it is useless for the purposes of DayZ

My monitor has an option for a crosshair, I've used it in servers with no hip fire crosshair. I best check I'm not breaking any tos
If you want a permanent crosshair, put some transparent tape on the center of your physical display and paint a crosshair on it. Worked like charm 20 years ago, still does today.

I have no idea why developers even bother to remove crosshairs.

All it does is that it puts people at a disadvantage that do not want to spoil their display with a taped crosshair because they want to use it for other things than gaming, too.

With a game as old as dayz youd think people would just get good and not need the crosshair
