BI, the developers of DayZ, could easily port old models to the game if they chose to so that doesn't matter at all. The fact is, they're building DayZ, not some mod of DayZ that you may have accidentally confused with DayZ itself.
A developers that actively builds onto its game is a good thing, whether anyone thinks it's "finished" or not.
There was no building never mind building snap, the only things I remember being buildable where tents, stashes and even hesco barriers and barbwire fencing ( the last two never lasted beyond a single server session).
You will never see things like BTR's, jets and so on as this is a survival game not an addition to a military simulation.
Arma 2 DayZ and DayZ are only really similar by name and people wanting things like traders, snap build and military vehicles like BTR's are forgetting what made DayZ awesome.
It had nothing to do with number of guns, how many vehicle types you had or anything ( as Arma had it all and just look how many different versions followed dean's original ) but the idea of starting with nothing but a bandage, 1 clip and a pistol ( and even that was too much for the majority of hard core survivalists ).
Ultimately the amount of "content" that was disabled from the base game back then in the dayz mod was staggering when you look at all that Arma 2, operation arrowhead and other expansions offered, a small number of guns, two ( maybe three ) helicopters and nothing "high grade ".
No stingers, javlins, no armoured vehicles, no AS50's no huge selection of helicopters, no jets, no snap build, no AI patrols and no traders were ever part of the original ( that sort of stuff reminds me of an EPOCH server that had so many mods it nearly crashed servers upon loading, so much additional military content that it could barley be called DayZ ).
DayZ it is, it's not EPOCH, overpoch, origins, Namalsk or any other follow on ( while I do admit they could learn a thing or two from Namalsk and origins having a sort of zombie class system even if that was just regular and how much ammo did I just use to take that out ) but then we do have wolves, bears will be comming and other things to make the survival in DayZ seperate and unique from mod versions.
I hope that people stop looking at other for want of better words rip off versions of the DayZ mod and remember the original, this game started with that as an essential base line of what we have and have to come.
If you want a stroll down memory lane It's available on steam the original mod although I'm sure it has continued to evolve over time....

The vanilla mod on Arma 2 quickly became boring when things like Origins and Epoch started.
