DayZ

Delete character.
When is Dayz going to add a 'delete character' option? My character list is full of unused and CANT use characters. They're all broken. Which makes the game half way unplayeble.

Tried Deleting the Dayz folder under documents? Wipe key binds and stuff stored local might clean them up?

nah, they're somewhere stored under 'app data' (hidden folder).

Nah. Clearing up folders or anything of the likes never worked. I used to contact support after countless of days after just getting a gentle '♥♥♥♥ you' easily said since they can't help me. I mean, This game is legitimately unplayeble for me.

well, I once cleaned the App data folder of crash dumps and accidentally deleted three of my characters in the process (only the official ones, though, modded were still there)
I just can't recollect which exactly were the files that I shouldn't have deleted.

it must grab the data from somewhere, as the guy appears even when you are offline.... Suggest asking them which Cache or folder to clean up!?? Also Link the report where you have reported this as a manifest job, see if they suggest or point in another direction!

If not, you could try this at your own Risk, but it seems the most likely places to keep the cached guys!

Close Dayz
Close Steam,
I would start with the following files:
C:\Users\(yourusername)\AppData\Local\DayZ\DataCache\cache.ch
and
C:\Users\(yourusername)\Documents\DayZ\profile.vars.dayzprofile

Just rename it to Cache.ch.old & profile.vars.dayzprofile.old so you have them backed up and reopen Steam and dayz! if it doesnt fix it and causes issues you can always rename them back!

Make sure Dayz is closed! Same goes with deleting any other files in the future.

Good Luck!

Yeah I did the same at some point! But I just deleted the whole folder content! looking at mine the logs dmps and such are in the root folder, the cache is in its own folder!?

I don't any have problems with what kind of character stands in my main menu, but I was curious about this, and I can confirm that deleting both documents\dayz and appdata\local\dayz folders did not remove any saved characters. I'm guessing they're stored in steam cloud saves...? Or what other local locations there might be?

yep, cache is seperate, thus I also didn't look too closely what I deleted :steammocking:
but anyway, I lost three fully geared caracters.

the chars were still in the main menu screen when I started the game, though.
only when I logged in with one I spawned as a fresh spawn.
first I thought there was a server wipe, lol, made an extra thread about it.

well, maybe they're still somwhere in server limbo...

They aren't anyway connected to the characters saved on the server you're playing on, as far as I know. As long as you're using the same Steam account, the server will recognize you and your character.
I for example reinstalled the game to new pc and the servers spawned me as my old geared guy on the old computer.

There are some files located in steam.... ?
\Steam\userdata\(RamdomNumber)\221100\remote
and the folder before ???

These resemble the file in Documents\dayz ... Maybe where it gets it from?

Well i used to have contacted support and told me that characters that are from private servers can't be deleted whatsoever. By them, Meaning that - If the server you used to join doesn't exist anymore. You have a broken character. One to stick around. Since you can't join back there anymore to delete it.

I can't understand how dayz has failed to do this because. If i see it this way, my game doesn't work anymore because all these characters are broken.

Just join a server, does it matter what "person" you rock up as??? I never got that! just let it choose you and play!

Read again, "Broken characters". They're broken and unpredictable. Uncustomizable. Aka = Broken. Not sure how many times i have to say that.
ast May 24, 2020 @ 12:49pm
well, I find it also a bit annoying that you have to scroll through a set of 'broken characters' to get to the one or two you want to play with.

Fun fact: Doesn't matter what character i pick, It'll force me to play one specific character i can't edit. (The rest is just collecting dust, and is unusable.)
