How to find rocks?

I looked at other posts and I followed trails and train tracks but I haven't found rocks yet. I looked at every pile of small stones and it wouldn't give me rocks or anything. I even stayed in my inventory in case it showed up in vicinity but I still haven't gotten rocks. What do they look like and any other tips of how to find rocks?

well, they look like grey stones, as big as your fist.
just found two on a gravel road, keep your eyes open, they stick out a bit (from the usual clutter).

They can be hard to spot and sometimes you can run along the train tracks for minutes without finding any. Eventually you'll find one...

On livonia map it is very easy to find stones.
You go on any dirt road, run 1km up then back and you should find 3-4.
In chernarus map go inside forest until you will se small walking trails ... they have white/blue, white/red, white/green small 60cm high posts every 300m.
Run 1km up and down and you will find stones.
Or just find a pixaxe inside any shed in town and vilage.
Use it to make large stone from rocks sticking out of the ground everywhere.
Then drag large stone on pixaxe and you will have option to craft small stones and that is what you need..

But if you just need a knife it is faster to go in town or vilage and search every house and shed for it.

Deeper in map you go, more loot you will find..

Looking at the thread there is confusion between small stones and large ones only giving information on the small stones.

Small stones are all over the place just keep an eye out on the trails, train tracks and so on for them, they are everywhere.

The large ones you have to mine from the black rocks you find in areas like the coast on cherno, use a pickaxe, sledgehammer and so on to mine them.

The large stones ( what i think you are referring to as rocks ) can only be mined not looted.

I've got a great idea for a video game. Imagine PUBG without a closing circle, and zombies everywhere. Also each time you log in, you spin a wheel of chance but you have to wait an hour or two before you're allowed to spin this wheel. After you spin it, there's a 1 in 7 chance you'll land on "ROCK/KNIFE". If you land on rock/knife, you're allowed to keep playing the game. If you don't land on rock, you'll starve to death. Sounds FUN RIGHT?

I'm having that problem now. I've been to the quarry and nothing I've looked at all the mountain\rock places on the map and still can't get large stone. Have any of you found a solution??

This thread will probably get locked due to being 4 years old. But…..

Dirt roads and railroad tracks are where you find stones. They spawn the same way fruits and mushrooms spawn: a player must be in the area for a few mins to trigger them to spawn.

You can also use certain tools on boulders to get stones.

I have tried everything day z wiki told me to on every stone I came across and nothing just more farm plots or worms

Forests are good for them in livonia. Especially near the river

PIckaxes + Boulders == Large Stones for construction purposes.

Monkey Wrench + Boulder == Small Stones, like the ones which can be found on train tracks or hiking trails.

And if you're not finding the small stones on trails you're probably moving too fast over the terrain. Walk, don't run along the trail, you'll notice the small stones faster. Another decent location I've noticed in the past on Chernarus is the well on the east side of Prigo, the one alongside the train tracks. Sitting there filling up on water will almost certainly spawn a few stones, especially if the server isn't crawling with other players.

apparently stuff spawns behind where u been, run the RR track for a while, nothing, turn around an go back, stones for days..

Piles of rocks at industrial areas, but you can only pick up specific stones that spawn on the ground

Seriously, why did they get rid of the "search for stones" function on the beach or gravel-based sections on the ground? I understand why they got rid of searching for apples since it was an infinite food supply, but removing searching for stones is ridiculous

Rocks, fruit and mushrooms all have areas that they can potentialy spawn in. The game decides which areas actively spawn and what areas spawn nothing.

If you stay anywhere long enough, you will get plenty. but it might be better to just find yourself a steak knife on a zombie or in a house if you want something quickly.
