Chopping down trees without axe

I really try to avoid cities, my playstyle is cabin in the woods hermit man.

Is there a way to chop down trees without venturing into a city or something and finding an axe?

Its really annoying to have to spend 30 min to and hour looking for axe every time it breaks.

In order to chop down trees you need an axe. I think there are saws too, but they spawn in the city too. Your best bet is to find some small groups of houses in the woods ya know? Hopefully they have an axe in the shed.. :/
You can chop bushes with a machete but I dont think that helps you. Sorry :(

Using twigs cut down with any blade and bark cut out of trees is the only way to get firewood.

Check the outhouses for sharpening stones. They'll repair your used axes to help keep them lasting longer. Not sure if regular stones can be used for that anymore, but you can try finding small stones or using a pickaxe to mine out a rock for a larger one. They might be able to help extend the life of your tools.

You risk injury so it's really only in case of emergencies and only if you have matches because you can't make a fire without at least having a wood drill. Needs a cutting tool to get bark.
This is why players need to prioritize survival over running to the first military site.

The durability of the splitting axe has been increased substantially, they last quite a long time now. If you try chopping down trees with the Hatched you will destroy it in a very short time.
