So I tried community servers and no thank you.
So far I've tried half a dozen community servers with hi pops and there seems to be one thing in common....

1. Walking zombies that are easy to avoid. I myself prefer the new zombies that are an actual threat if you get more than one coming for you.
2. Tons of loot. I prefer the challenge of getting the good loots. One server even gave me a backpack when I spawned in.
3. Ingame chat. Was ok at first, till you getting a bunch of cancerous kids on in a competition of who can say the most disgusting things about someones mom. As a Youtuber, it's annoying as hell to try and record content.

I'll keep looking, but so far not impressed at all with the modded community servers.

Try the "After Zero" server. Its going for a light RP/hardcore DayZ experience with only the mods that truly make that experience. For example
-Limited stamina (automatically makes zeds more deadly)
-The loot is balanced perfectly (Night vision limited to Tisy and 3 spawns only etc)
-Mature, experienced DayZ players who want content as much as you do (no screaming kids, so far)
-There are a few rules but KOS is allowed.

Hope this helps

Depends on where you're at. I have a west coast server with 5 times the number of infected. Still looking at re-working the loot spawns on the infected but unfortunately, BI only seem to release the server files when they feel like it so I can't even update my server yet

There are plenty of servers to all tastes. I hope you find some for you.

I called it years ago what modding would do and the only response was, you don't like it, don't play on them. So I don't but now look at the vanilla experience.... dead and empty. People want to be coddled and not play games the way they were meant to be played. Guaranteed that all the these same people use cheat codes in single player games just to get that advantage
I get confused when I see lofty statements about how 'everybody' thinks, especially when the statements are directed at anything that disagrees with the commenting person's worldview. In games the PURPOSE of modding is to let people customize to their own preference. Being upset that someone likes an insta-gear pvp battle royale on a server you aren't paying for and don't have to even acknowledge exists is the epitome of ludicrous.

DayZ started as a mod that I'm sure many Arma players thought was <insert favorite negative descriptor here>. And then a large number of related mods followed that oldtimers often reminisce about whilst missing the 'good old days'.

What might be nice is a smoother method to sort server mod styles so it's easier to avoid the servers that don't suit one's preferences. Since I play vanilla mostly or with just night shortened on a friend's server there may be a tool that already enables such a sort.

PvP will always appeal to the mass population of gamers. Easy PvP will appeal even more. I can understand not wanting to walk around looting for 3 hours. What I can't understand is 3pp. I honestly wish devs would take it out of the game, but that's me. Looking over a roof while not being seen is as good as downloading wall hacks. It's pretty sad that there are so few 1pp servers. The only good one I've seen so far is the Nest.

Still better than vanilla where you spend your time not having any fun, constently having to loot crappy spots and find the 3 same guns. I have fun in vanilla 0.62, having a lot of guns in the game, spawning in Elektro and finding a derringer while looting houses and then trying to make a play on geared players.

Having both first person only and no crosshair... I think more people flee from the lack of crosshair but have not tested 1 without the other recently.
This is exactly what I'd enjoy and I've whined about it in the past. It would be so fun. If people want to put a little dot on their screen so be it. Honestly I'm already used to the right-click+shift mechanic. Just make DayZ hard, with less Call of Duty type features. Water sources broken, zombies harder and swarming when you shoot, and it's still not really that hard. The two times that I've died so far were from bugs. I got stuck in a doorway and collided with a zombie, and I got stuck between a train and a person shot me in the face (no vault, GG). Otherwise it's been farming, pots, and canteens.

I've removed the crosshair on my server as well as 1pp only with five times the infected count from standard and you do not dare fire your weapon at an infected

So you mad cause people run mods they enjoy on a server they pay for? Find one that suit your taste.
