DayZ
Removing shoes to lessen noise
Did a Dayz-run just now and when thought I found a new pair of shoes. Thought I had put the new ones on but apparently not, since i noticed i barely made any sound when walking or running, compared to the generally clunky sound when using shoes/boots. Super-stealthy and practical if you're running around in a high-risk area and it's dark, or really any moment when you know there's lots of peeps around. Try it!

Pretty old meta, just waiting for them to readd the damage from running without shoes on. Untill then, i'll store my knife in my shoes
no shoes = cheap 'n cheesy
like nica said - hope we getting damage back soon when running barefoot
I think this will be a really nice feature when they add bows, crossbows and throwing. The devs shouldn't force players to wear shoes, though I think there has to be some damage (a little that always count)

yes they should. DayZ is meant to be a hardcore survival game. they did it in the past and they will add it again.

Maybe that would be a good addition if the developers had any vision at all. If you don't wear shoes long enough you will be fine without them. It is only after wearing shoes for a long time and then taking them off that you can hurt yourself because your feet turn into little puppy paws.
Or how about damage and bleeding when you wear shoes after not wearing them for a long time. Or having to Duct Tape your feet when switching from sneakers to wearing boots and running.

yeah like all those ghost tribes existing on their surroundings with the latest nikes.... a little damage yes but death as a result no, really it depends what your walking on doesnt it

yes and no. Your feet can build up a tolerance to just about anything - - but especially paved roads, gravel, and grass. Chernarus is not a rain forest - - but on that same note most stone age cultures were barefoot until christians found them within the last hundred years.
All I'm trying to say here is it is a pretty gotdam slippery slope when you start in on the "its a survival game! you should have to wear shoes or else!" line of thinking.

a rainforest is gonna contain many more hazards for bare soles than any developed area. take a look at africa indonesia blah blah blah blah they all have populations of people that do not wear shoes, in fact in some places shoes inhibit peoples ability to do what they do to survive. take free climbing as an example of that. shoes simply are not essentia for survival, and thus in a hardcore survival game that should be reflected. no yes or no about it, unless charnaus is made up of glass shards and very recent volcanic lava flows.. .. .

I agree. But these super advanced feet mechanics we are discussing are pretty far outside of the DayZ development team's wheelhouse.
exactly so if it was just limited to the extra noise you make from the odd ouch sound that would suffice as apossed to actually causing damage, the risk of a person or zombie hearing that ought to overide the benefit unless they add an option whereby slow careful movement stops the ouchy so you can opt to sneak thatb seems fair enough no
an not beyond they limits of such a pro outfit ..
Anybody who grew up running around barefoot as a kid knows that shoes are not a necessity. Your feet develop callouses the more they’re exposed to surfaces that would normally be rough on your skin.

The whole “you should receive damage when barefoot” is stupid and far from realistic. I’m open to certain surfaces being able to damage you (say walking through the woods) but only after you initially remove your shoes. We should not be strictly bound to having to wear shoes to prevent taking damage. That’s severely limiting gameplay. If I want to be a silent bowman in the woods, I should be able to. I’ve been wanting to for as long as I can remember and the game makes it very difficult to do so.

Somebody above suggested being able to duct tape your feet as a way of being silent and not taking any damage. That’s a really good idea.
other than the restricted blood flow as a result ....
perhaps if you only made the ouch noise the first hour or so then you could run and move around just fine. again its a slippery slope. Realistic foot mechanics versus gameplay. Maybe they could add legos to the game so that people could just throw a handful of legos in a doorway to thwart any barefoot assassins.
