Is there any point in taking a can opener if you have a knife?

Does opening cans wear out knifes? I have worn out a can opener before. It just became damaged and stopped working, so i dont get the point of them.

They don't create any waste when opening cans. Knives or any other tools that can do th ejob cause spillage.

You also damage knives and other tools but if you're only using a knife to open a can and not using it as a weapon then no issue

While there is the waste/spillage factor, it doesn't have a huge value difference. So i would agree the values and time-pentallties for certain items usage really needs tweaking.

The correct tool (can opener) should be quick, while a knife should be cumbersome and alot longer.

Agreed. I mean, I have opened cans with knives before (when I have been fishing and forgot a can opener), takes like 3 minutes. Where as with a can opener takes about 10 seconds.
