barrels, tent disappeared. need some help!
I am still new and not sure about the servers. I played on a server with a statement "persistant enabled", I thought that means the barrels, tents will be there forever. But it is clearly not as I found out the barrels i placed are just gone.

so in this game, no matter what servers you play, the barrels, tent with loot will be deleted after some time, is that right? you wont get any info saying the server will be reset. the server will periodically undergo a wipe? if it is wipe, then what is the frequency of wiping?

im also confused when i see red statements at the left bottom corner says the server restarts in XX mins. what does it mean? as when it restarts my barrels are still there.

i just found out that the tents/barrels despawn in 7 days. then what is fking point to play this game?

Persistance is an issue atm, it's not intended that they disappear. Admins need to safe the database regularly. If they don't - you base and barrels etc. are gone.
Will probably be fixed with the next patch. If the server restarts it's not an issue, since it doesn't ♥♥♥♥ up the database. If the server crashes and admin didn't safe it, it's gone.

The point with the despawn timers is that abandoned or forgotten persistent items (tents, barrels, stashes and now bases too I guess) are removed to return their contents to the economy and reduce server clutter, for performance reasons. The timer is reset every time you interact with the container, so as long as you're active they will never despawn (in theory). The 7 days were in previous builds, I believe all persistent items last more than a month at the moment, unless they are wiped after a persistence corruption (see Lennart's post...).

One of the most serious issues the devs are currently struggling with is that when a server crashes there is a risk the persistence files (where persistent objects and their contents are saved) become corrupted, causing complete or partial wipes.

Some community servers are making backups of these files and restore them when needed, but this is not done on public servers - yet. Devs are working on a permanent solution to the problem, until that is in effect it is best not to get too attached to things you have stowed away.

This is always true though, there is no avoiding the risk that your hidaway is spotted and ransacked by thieves.

Also, if you are playing on public servers, make sure you are on the same server that you placed the barrels on. No-brainer advice to some, but many do think tents/barrels/stashes are connected to the character somehow. I still forget this myself sometimes, and used it at one point in 0.62, where I put my tent on a consistently empty server in some far off corner of the world. It was never raided. :steamhappy:

Were they three barrels in a garage with a bunch of jerry cans and a UMP45 inside them along with a bunch of other stuff? On a first person server?

In that case, we stole 'em.
