Knife Attacks
I start getting attacked by someone with a knife and I can neither run, or pull out something to defend myself. How do you handle this situation?

I agree, melee weapons are game breaking if you ask me. I was sitting in a house with an mp5. And a guy rushed in at me withjust a knife and completely combo locked me. All i could do was watch as get really irritated as my 3 hours of time got completely ♥♥♥♥ on by a guy wielding nothing but a kitchen knife.

Other than game breaking melee weapons, 0.63 is amazing. I love how smooth it all is. The only that really bugs me is how easy it is to combo lock someone with melee weapons.
Situational awareness ... don't let people get close enough to attack because people are generally not nice.

So if I walk into a barrack and there is somebody literally sitting next to the door with a knife, I guess it's ♥♥♥♥ me? You can't walk away. You can't block. You can't pull out a gun. That's not about situational awareness. If someone can manage to hit you with a single knife swing, you are finished. No matter how much gear you have, how healthy you are, how prepared you are. One knife swing equals death. It's broken. Plain and simple.

Hmmm, yeah ... one knife swing should definitely give a huge advantage to the person who did the attacking, death is certainly not unreasonable if you get ambushed like in the scenario you described.
... or, you could say "excuse me good sir, do you mind slowing your murderous intentions while I reach for a weapon to reciprocate."
You died in a military area to somebody that you didn't know was there ... situational awareness.

Ambushes... kinda work like that, you know? By not giving you time to react. Tell me, would you be able to pull out a gun or even use it in close quarters when you're being stabbed out of nowhere, taken by surprise? I doubt that.

As Boris pointed out, you need situational awareness. If you're caught with your pants down, that's your problem, not the game's. Though, I wonder if you can be stunlocked with your weapon out, be it melee or a gun... Because in this case, you should be able to block. But otherwise? You'll die. Ambushes work like that.

I also recommend you to watch videos about knife-wielding people running at people with guns. Even pulling out a pistol takes time, and it's often more than enough for the knifer to close the distance and disable you. It's all a matter of reaction and circustance.

People want realism and then cry that a few punches knocks someone fully geared out. lel.

A bit surprised that some are defending this problem. You should never be stunclocked till death by any melee weapon/attack. In enclosed spaces it is very easy to do so by spamming the heavy attack.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere the devs have confirmed this problem and that it will be dealt with.

21 feet or less & you're in trouble.

Of course. I think there shouldn't be complete stunlocking, but there shouldn't be complete freedom either. There needs to be a balance so that ambushes are still feasible.

Exactly. Also, only heavy attacks cause stagger/stun and they drain a crapload of stamina, so if players would just stay clear of pew-pew no-stamina servers, they wouldn't run into this problem. I'm perfectly fine with heavy attacks causing stagger as long as the attacker can't keep spamming it.

Yeah because a knife being the most powerful weapon in the game is realistic. LOL

I guess the point I am making is not about dying to the knife, it's about the mechanics behind it. If someone is camping an ATC or whatever with a gun, they can shoot at you, and potentially kill you. However, you can always fight back, or run away. If you get into a fist fight on the coast, you can always fight back OR run away.

If you get hit by a knife once, you can neither fight back nor run away. Getting touched by a knife means death. That alone makes the knife more powerful than any gun, or weapon in DayZ. It may not kill as fast, or from a range, but if you can even touch someone with a knife you are guaranteed a kill. Period.

It's not realistic, it's broken. I think anyone can see that.

melee is kinda broken atm but i like it way better than before with the one punch ko. There's always a chance your enemy will fok up or run out of stamina.

Just always be prepared. Keep your distance or pay the price because it really don't matter if he or she is holding a knife. If they got you locked it's game over man.
