Any camp building tips?

Hello, my friends and I are gonna build our first base today, and were wondering if you had any tips regarding it's layout/safety.

Don't build a camp. Make stashes.

Stashes, Bases, and Campos are all worth it if done properly, for a good base, hide it in a building or WAY out in the woods, Camps are only good on chernarus because of size, make sure its in the boonies, for a Stash, In a apartment at in a bath room a barrel is not a bad idea, not many people check there, or you can hide it in some rocks here and there, but that really limits what you can have, honestly, id just go balls deep and make a full ass base, hide it in a shed or a warehouse tho, make sure its hidden, makes it easier to defend and less likely to be found, unless its in a common loot area, but thats just my opinion

Make several of the fence and watchtower stakes sets and layout the entire planned camp. Slopes and other things can block some positions. Also roof overhangs can get you cursing when building watchtowers next to buildings. Sometimes it's hard to find the right position for your character to 'see' the build options. Don't give up. Real world logic works not at all as far as DayZ building is concerned.
The most important thing is to keep plenty of tool repair items handy. Hammers don't repair but hatchets do. Nails are the gold of DayZ. I could see them one day being used as money lol

I already have some stashes hidden in some faraway forest but our goal is to keep a lot more stuff safe from other players. In your opinion, is it better to build in (remote and isolated) buildings, or in forests? Are the base easily raid-able?

What enforcer said, if you build a base just make sure to place a sign out front saying I am a horder with tons of great gear so come greif me . Yes having a base for your clan is fun and gives a sence of territory control but if you decide to build one " DO NOT" keep your loot or vehicles there , you are just asking to get pissed off, and than hate on the game etc. Little secret, find a single door existing building and if you want to keep it somewhat safe put like 10 minimum fences in front of the door, but keep in mind you will need to dismantle them everytime you want back in, so again like enforcer said , just bury your goods 😉

That's the answer I feared... I would prefer to just keep burried stashes at certain hidden locations but I've found only 2 shovels in 20hours of playtime, it would be a shame to have good loot burried and not being able to retrieve it...

On certain Servers base building is supper fun a lot more options with Build Anywhere

Personally i would not bother with building in vanilla, modded though, that's another story.

I would advise you to build on a modded server with better basebuilding balance!
On Vanilla all it takes is just one guy to notice your base and come back when you're offline, since even just one saw can get through 2-3 gates just destroying your locks.
You should use a building because an open base needs huge amounts of supplies if you want some space and security, you definatly have to build an airlock system which will take alot of room. Also be prepared for alot of trial and error while building, even when it lets you put up the pillars sometimes you won't be able to build the frames due to some weird object collisions, just a doubled up fence will sometimes cause this because the game will tend to not allow placing a fence due to the platform behind it, even when you don't build it.
It sure as hell is alot of fun though!

Basebuilding in vanilla is pointless - it takes an obscene amount of time and resources to construct even a basic base and all of 30 seconds for any random player to break into it.

If you can find a small tent and a camo net, try and hide it in some thick trees, otherwise your best option is squirreling - hiding or burying wood crates and making a map of them so you can retrieve or dig them up while also being unlikely to be discovered.

Of course, with the inventory still bugged, storing any kind of loot is a freaking crapshoot at the moment.

Well thanks for your replies everyone, I've decided to not build a camp in vanilla. Yesterday we took all our crates to a different location instead. The inventory managment is absolutely awful, along with some desync and unpickable objects, it ahs been one of the worst experience I have had in dayz. I will try it out on modded servers though, it seems more worth it.

Try " isolation " server , has base building plus and a few more base building mods and base raiding is not allowed.
