When you change server does your character switch to that server?

If you are playing on private servers - no! Only if these private servers share the same hive.
On official servers you can use one character on all servers.

Not fully correct...public first person only characters can only be used on other public first person only servers, same with 1st/3rd person public characters...
With other words, you can't switch with your 1st person public char to a 1st/3rd person public server...

You need to click this down aimed arrow under the server name to show you more info about the server.
