go to the community tab and find a server that suits you. one server = one hive there.
Keep in mind senusmc most of the community servers have mods that make it a completely different game. Theres a few good improvements for base building, cool blood mods, clothing mods, extra guns, but it comes at a cost at losing everything else DayZ is on official.
The gameplay in modded servers is a lot different than the main game. It's more about gathering loot to sell at safe zone, no killing, easy mode, trader bases. Where players buy and exchange loot. Then go PvP at the nearest location and die.
In modded servers, It's less about survival, less about who knows how to survive, less about finding the best loot at dangerous military bases, and then PvP but more about who's richer than everyone else to buy the best guns at a safe zone where theres no threat and then PvP.
You can obviously choose to avoid trader bases and play it like regular DayZ but it leaves you at a disadvantage to the players who bought all the best gear at a safe zone to destroy those who didnt.
Modded servers also crash and restart all the time. Their performance can vary too. Its ridiculous. The amount of times you will lose loot or are unable to loot a player you just killed because of a modded server restart or crash happens ALL the time. This problem is rare and pretty much never occurs on official servers.
Community servers have their ups but many more downfalls. But they are a lot more popular right now than regular servers because they're more fast paced and easier to play. Most servers remove stamina so every player is a speedy sprinting tank with an AK and a drum mag.
It's not my cup of tea and I personally think its hurting the game and the playerbase.
To be honest man... unless you have a really small base, maybe a hidden buried backpack with a shovel. A well secured tent or few barrels. Base building isnt worth the time... it's sad but its true.
And yeah I've always been curious to see if theres some vanilla community servers out there but I dont think there is. There used to be one by a DayZ Youtuber named Jakon72. He used to run his Chipotle Bandits servers as 'Vanilla Plus'. It was pretty much the vanilla game with a few improvements. But he added like 5 or 10 minutes of night time and sunrise and the playerbase got triggered and left because they were scared of the dark I guess. And as easy mode modded 24/7 daytime servers got popular. His servers completely died out and he got rid of them. :(
