Crafting a fireplace doesn't work

Hi guys, I had a frustrating hour of trying and researching how to do that. It just doesn't work for me. The ressources out there are so confusing (DayZ went through several stages, having major concept changes in - well, everything). This is what I tried - no chance to get it work:

- I cut down a bush and get a long stick. I try to combine this with a rag, but can only craft troches. I don't wnat that.
- I cut the long stick into short sticks. I try to combine these short sticks with a rag, but the game refuses to do so (red border, no way to combine them).
- I try to use my scroll wheel to change the option of how to cut the bush (maybe something like: cut firewood etc.) But nothing shows up.

The Wiki says: Take you sticks, combine them with rags -> boom, you will get a fireplace. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it does not work. The pics of short sticks in the wiki (3 in a bundle) do not correspond to what my sticks look like. https://dayz.gamepedia.com/Fireplace

Does anyone have a reliable resource where this process is shown for the up-to-date DayZ UI/Interface/Interaction?

you can swap from torch to something else by pushing F i think?

Yes you need three short sticks to combine with rags/bandage/bark so that's good. All you have to do is walk into the bush with knife and left click for Cut Bush - there's nothing else involved.

I usually have the rags in my hands in Inventory mode/view and then drag the short sticks from the Environment to the rags.

The game then leaves Inventory mode and I get the icon of a mouse with the relevant text prompt for F

Perhaps tell us how you try to combine the short sticks and the rags?

I was holding the sticks in inventory view (the view coming up when pressing Tab) in my hands and dragged the rags onto them to combine. This triggered crafting a torch - not a fireplace. So maybe the order matters? I mean, what you hold in your hands, and what you drag onto it? And what you said about pressing F? Is this key maybe toggling through the crafting options? I will also try this one.

Alright - got it now. There is such a toggle option which let you choose what to craft after combining sticks and rags. You just tab the LMB instead of holding it - the symbol and german translation for this option I didn't get right - it is working now just fine.
