open up your library and under tools you'll find dayz server. google how to use SteamCMD and do it that way, otherwise you'll need a second account that owns dayz.

You can run a server on the same system you play on if your hardware is up to the job, no need for SteamCMD in that instance.

Install the server files, right click on "DayZ server" in steam tools and add -config=serverDZ.cfg
to the command line.

If you want to name and or password your server open serverDZ.cfg with note pad and add it there.
You can also set player numbers and server time, as well as other things, in that file.

Run your server, then boot the game and look for it in the LAN tab of the server browser.

If you want it to be visible to others over the web you'll likely need to take a couple more steps to forward ports etc.

There are a number of guides around if you need them.

This is from a post a while ago about the same issue, it may help you......

No worries, can you direct connect to it using parameters? (official dayz launcher has them or enter manually as params)
Put server as 172.0.0.1 port as what you have specified usually 2302. Ensure it connects this way before doing any more troubleshooting.
Good Luck!

Omg man...you are correct just its not 172 but 127 :) i entered the game and it works!!! yet is there any way to check on what server I am?? Thanks alot, you rock man

Start DayZ launcher, click on "Parameters", click the tab "All Parameters" scroll down to "Client" and enter the values from the quotes above,

Server IP : 127.0.0.1
Port : 2302
Password : Your Server Password.

I believe that the IP address, 127.0.0.1, is where your LAN server should be if it is running on the same PC that you are playing on and I believe 2302 is the default port unless changed!? Not sure about the why's and wherefores, but those values should do the trick.

Good Luck.
