Character can 't look around or move

Just logged in after the latest update. For some reason none of the controls work (inc looking around with the mouse).

The only time the character moves is when I click exit... they decide to sit down

if you got other controllers plugged in, it maybe interfering

There's a Pinned post right at the top of the discussions section, called Stable Update 1.03.151552. In there you will find the following paragraph:

"It is highly recommended to use the Steam client option to verify the integrity of the local game cache to avoid corrupted data after downloading this update.
Consider de-fragmenting your HDD after downloading large updates."

Try it, who knows.
The character animation upon hitting Exit, is to sit down.

I found a response online that managed to work, which was delete the DayZ folder in My Documents

Check your settings it might be the game decided to delete your configuration and outputs so everything is cleared and you need to bind keys or just go back and set to default settings because everything is unbound i have the same issue everytime i launch this painful game i have set output to default and bind it to my liking again

Hey, thats exactly what happens to me everytime i start the game.. is there a way how to not have this issue ?

i don't know i just reset setting and move on . nobody on reddit gives me clear instruction just circlejerk so you most likely have to reset it everytime

Giving specific instructions is hard, since the "can't move" error can have multiple causes, be it an active discord overlay, a joypad plugged in, not verifying files after update and so on...
