Install DayZ Server.
After it is installed right click it and select Properties then Launch Options, type this in there:
-config=serverDZ.cfg
Start DayZ server from Steam, wait for it to initialize, then start DayZ from steam and your server should be listed on the LAN tab, by default it will be called "EXAMPLE NAME"
Right Click on DayZ Server on Steam > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files.
This is your servers root/installation directory, you can open serverDZ.cfg and edit the server name etc.
You will generally find instructions on how to install mods on their workshop pages.
It usually involves copying the @workshopmod folder to your servers root directory, copying the keys folder from inside @workshopmod to the keys folder in your server root/keys directory and adding the mods to your servers launch paramaters for example:
-config=serverDZ.cfg -profiles=profiles -mod=@CF;@Community-Online-Tools
Installation can vary from mod to mod though.
Then you would start the server, start DayZ with the mods you need with DayZ Launcher (Right click DayZ on Steam, Run DayZ Launcher) select the mods you need and hit play / join your server.
Yes it's exactly like any other server in the server browser, the only difference is it's only visible to you unless you open some ports so others can connect. You can save stuff on the server.
