State of silenced weapons vs. infected
Ok, I've been testing the new Luger for its' silencer and got mixed results; don't ask me for the ingame names, I'll call these weapons what I know them as. I tested it vs. a silenced MP5 to see if I can spot a difference.

And it seems to me the MP still attracts zombies from across the hill, while the Luger actually works as a silenced gun, or it is simply quieter and attracts less attention by its noise? I know handguns make less noise. Was that possibly one reason why gunshot sounds travel further now, so they be heard by more infected?

I also found I couldn't reload mags from pre-loaded rifles I found (couldn't empty them either), and I can't empty liquid containers and a bunch of other issues. Overall though I can't deny the improvements, but I wish silenced guns would work properly now, so you can actually roam a city without attracting zombies. I only use the Luger on single enemies and melee the rest. Anything else is just a waste of ammo; they come in droves.

Yer with regards to suppressors ive not tested every gun but no matter what gun I use the zombies can hear the shots.

Zombie now have better hearing thats for sure because in last update they can hear you talk in-game.

With emptying fluids you can look straight down at the ground and you should get option well atleats the server I play on you can do so.

Gas canisters someone said they couldnt empty that and I have not tried so there may be no option to empty gaS

Well to be honest it is realistic. In the really real world silencers do not make weapons quite like you see in the movies, they just reduce the noise reduction. Depending on the calibure of the gun some guns with silencers will have more noise reduction for example a .22 rifle with a silencer will be much softer then a 9mm with a silencer.

So to sum it up a weapon with a silencer/suppressor will still make a pretty loud noise it is just safer for your ears.

yer i guess thats why they called suppressors and not silencers, just because they re supressing the sound and not making it silent

And the little detail that your are in a extremely quiet worlds influences too you know.

It's not a Luger it's a Ruger Mark 2 Amphibian.

The AWC TM-Amphibian "S" is an integrally-suppressed variant of the Ruger Mk II Target .22 LR pistol.

The Ruger Standard Model is a rimfire semi-automatic pistol introduced in 1949 as the first product manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co., and was the founding member of a product line of .22 Long Rifle cartridge handguns, including its later iterations: the MK II, MK III, and MK IV. It is marketed as an inexpensive .22 caliber rimfire intended for casual sport and target shooting, and plinking.

To the best of my knowledge no Luger variant used .22.
.45 ACP

Right, it's a Ruger, I guess other games are already confusing me with their made up names.

The thing I noticed is when I shoot a zombi with it when the infected weren't alarmed before, the bystanders won't notice (unless they are closer than my target). However, when I try picking them out after alerting them and waiting until they wander off, they will return in numbers - even from pretty far away. That's what confuses me, as the zombies seem to act differently after being alarmed once. Maybe that is intended, but it feels strange. I don't expect silenced weapons to be dead quiet, but I do expect them to behave the same way, overall.

First: Don't confuse suppressed with silenced. No weapon is silent.
Every gun will be heard one way or another.
The best option so far is the .22 followed by a suppressed Makarov.
MP5 and UMP seem to be ok too. The Skorpion despite being suppressed is waaaaay too loud probably because the bullets are travelling much faster than when fired from a MP5 or UMP. All bullets are supersonic so it's not understandable why that particular autopistol is so loud for the infected.
However if you shoot more than let's say 3 times or even shoot like crazy or miss shots infected are going to be alerted and run where the noise came from.
Any other weapon is too loud even suppressed, we are talking 100+dB levels also don't forget that the bullets themselves are a source of noise.

I am aware no weapon is fully silenced, subsonic projectiles are of course better. In my other reply I stated that it's not the fact the infected are alerted, but that they are alerted to sound differently, even when they didn't react from the same distance before.

It's even more than that. I was chased by infected while bleading out on the road to elektro inland. They originally spawned at the holiday camp and I retreated down the road. However, when I shot them and was down to the last two, I saw a group of 4-6 spawn down the road, in the direction I came from. I was damn lucky there was a car I could get into and wait, until my blood returned to normal levels. I think to continue shooting AK would just have caused more infected to spawn and never end the cycle.

RE: I've tested some more and it seems you are right. In cities you realize much more that the pistols just cause infected within the radius of sound to swarm towards it. I guess the villages where I shot them singularily simply didn't have that many infected around, or I was long gone by the time they arrived.

It seems the devs want us to be quiet+stealthy among the infected and go loud in PvP. There is hardly a point in gunning them down when it will just spawn more and draw every infected to you.

Well i have tested it before so that's why i know it.

A buddy ran a test server for a short while where he increased the infected number to at least x2.
I was in the police station and cornered by the infected and said eff it and began shooting them through the windows with my unsuppressed Skorpion.
Long story short: he reported that the infected where he was ( that was at the gas station on the west end of town ) infected came running in my direction and after i was finished i had like 25 dead infected lying in front and around the police station. They also came from all around ofc since sound travels in all directions.

This is how it looked like.

Sound in general attracts them. If you have a loud melee with an infected those close enough tend to get attracted to the sound.

Good job testing, Enforcer, you were spot on and I just reiterate what you said for the most part.

I climbed to an elevated position to watch what was happening ^^

In towns it is really not recommended to shoot a lot. One or two shots you can get away with, but if you rapid-fire anything (even pistols) the aggro is getting insane. Even a minute later new zombies arrived and I watched them pathfinding. The most impressive thing was that they actually found a way to get to me. I kinda forgot that when I can climb up there, a zombie can too :P

It's all good. Got a few bruises for science and now I know what effects gunshots in cities have, I know I'll have to run and hide. If you stay in the same location and defend it is pretty much game over or out of ammo and melee royale :)

My only criticism is that those silenced guns should attract way fewer zombies than they do now. But that's probably not the end of tweaking - the silenced guns don't make sense when the zombies can still hear them (they'll give away your position).
