Did you guys know, that helmets are OP?

I just realised that when you wear a helmet, you allmost never start bleeding when hit by zombies.
Plus, you never get knockedout randomly, because the helmet takes the hit.
Plus if you get a headshot, (not in the center, but to the side/ear area) you will survive it.

Why does nobody on the dayz-wiki have info about this ?
if i knew this all earlier, i would wear helmets all the time

I got shot by a magnum once, barely took damage, passed out for like 5 minutes before friends epi penned me. Check my inventory, my pink baseball cap that I was wearing on my head was ruined...

Everything is head armor, some better than others.

yea like a cowboy hat is the best so far to me i took a winchester shot to the head was knocked out woke back up like 5 mins later didnt even lose any colour

I have been wearing motorcycle helmets and the ones with attachable visors and still bleed. I think I'm unlucky in general though because very, VERY rarely do I not bleed when hit by an infected. Funnily enough though I very rarely do bleed when shot.

You can still get knocked out. I think you mean by infected in which case maybe, but you can still get one punch KO'd by a player even with a pristine helmet and you most definitely can get knocked out by bullets no matter where they hit you.

You don't always survive but it definitely increases the chance greatly. It'll still knock you out though so it's best to have freinds to save you and then give you CPR.

The wiki is maintained by players, so just like other player maintained wiki's such as ARK's it is inaccurate a lot of the time and missing information. Worse so with DayZ because its player base is much smaller.

I am pretty sure the rider's jacket provides protection like this too. If you're wearing one and you get hit, it very quickly goes from pristine to ruined, where other jackets don't.

What I am not sure about, is - does that mean the rider's jacket is taking the damage instead of you?

Clothing does have protective values:

I could be wrong but wouldn't the protective statics cover such info: Ballistic - Bleed - Shock - Biological. (Or am i missing something?)

Example Stats: Motobike Helmet - Insulation 1.20 - Biological 0.30 - Ballistic 0.20 - Bleed 70% - Shock 7000

Just check individual items for protective values.

Thats just the real texture of leather and lack of leather wax, looks ruined with the littlest of scratches. ;P

Wearing a helmet for protection is just plain common sense.

Wearing a helmet for protection is just plain common sense.

yeah but this game has Ghilliee Hood
and Cammo bandanas and panamas that are cool to use too.
But now that i realised how OP helmets are, ill allways take a helmet over anything fancy

Last time i got killed i was wearing a steel helmet. The helmet kept my head in good shape
but the 60 feet fall broke my neck.

Also just in case anyone doesn't know, the medieval helmet is no good for ballistic protection. Only melee.

You'd be surprised how many people have complained about being one shotted with a 9mm because they think the helmet should have protected them.
