How do you tell the difference between and empty and a low pop server?
I'm trying to avoid empty servers, but they all wasy "low". Is this some kind of design decision to make us wonder if there are people around? Because I just wanna play with other people without having to be on the most populated server.

Apologies if I came off annoyed. I miss my player count :steamsad:

If you sort the servers by population so you see the low pops at the top the first couple servers listed will be empty.

Every full or nearly full 60 Slot Server can be considdered as Low Population Server.
Every smaler Server or a 60 with Low Pop can be considdered No POP at all.

Cheaters and Hackers just had unfair Tools to find Players very easy in the past.
While normal players are not sure if someone is in the Area or not.

No, I just want around 10-20 people. I want ONE server to play on, not fifty. It's not like I play very often, anyway.

It's not just an issue for hoppers. My server list is all low, any server below 300 ping has a low population. Unless I continuously spawn into each one to check them out I can't find one with at least a decent number of players without using a search engine and that annoys me. I end up playing with two or three people most of the time. Sucks a bit.

Exactly! I want to find a server that's half-full instead of choosing between overflowing and emptiness. They have LOW, HIGH, and FULL, but no MED/MEDIUM. Something tells me if I pick a LOW server, I will be either be playing alone or across the map from the other three players there. Neither is appealing to me.

EDIT: And to hell with opening a web browser to see the count; it should be in-game like it was.

For me I guess it's a bit worse because there aren't even high's to choose from...
Anyway it works like this. Low is 33% or below, medium is between 33% and 67%, high is between 67% and 100%. So let's say you want twenty people or so. Find a server that says medium and is a 50 pop server. The math is simple I was just giving an example, you can find a server that you want pretty easily withthat.

There are 5 labels for population; empty, low, medium, high, and full.
You can check who's in the same server with you through the Steam overlay. (View players)

Add them to favs and you can tell in steam server browser as well.
