While the Jool mission sees more and more ships lining up in waiting orbit...
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3347703169
...and the Zenko SSTO got a well due update, pushing it to 45 crew capacity and a 2 minute to coast to orbit stat:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3347702383
This finally happened. After hundreds of hours. The most meticulous planning in history (until Jool will be started in a few days), after braving the long dark!

The Goliath Interplanetary Relay Network arrives 2 days before the TSI Amatersu.
And ensures there is a sat link hence live coverage of the main course:

The TSI Amaterasu. 91 crew, 1817 tons. Coming in at 6200 m/s!
Centrifuge evacuated, com reflectors in, solar panels fold, all hands on deck and prepare to enter Eve's atmosphere!
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348151110
90km. 80, 75, 70- for a moment it looked as if she wouldnt make it!
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348442894
RCS wasnt active -.-
Only "slightly scorched" (note the red hot glowing main module) the Amaterasu made it through!
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348443004
But shes not heading for Eve just yet. Wait whut?
Eve is too expensive to get stuff into orbit from. And what if we bail? We need fuel. The aerobrake was calculated precisely for an intercept of this strange asteroid thingy, some call it a moon. Well yea, moon...
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348438197
And thus began the colonization of Eve - starting with a fuel outpost on Gilly.

TSI continues to write history.
After adjusting orbit the TSI Amaterasu went into station operation mode. Science satellites being deployed:

The Luni, a Usagi 4 class rover, touched down. Penobi Kerman became the first Kerbal to walk upon a body outside of Kerbins influence.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348483142
And! Time for the main act.
The Kappa, another Usagi 4 rover, was send back to Eve.
A daring, a dangerous maneuver.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348640003
Packed in two heatshields and a heat resistend shell. Just for the return from Gilly it took 4 passes to burn down the extreme speed the rover had. In one of the most violent atmospheres known to Kerbalkind. All while the fairing hovered at 95% heat capacity!
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348640256
The heat shields where NOT enough. After they burned up completely (out of ablator) the Kappa went into a nosedive right through the clouds, praying the remaining fairing would hold.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348640350
When they pierced through the low clouds the crew saw the surface of Eve coming at them with more than the speed of sound. Split seconds decided between ending up as a crater- or a heroic victory!
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348640418
The chutes opened just in time. After a blackout worthy 12.5G brake!
Its done. The Kappa touched down in one piece, if just so.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348640602
Today TSI wrote history as Jenny Kerman became the first Kerbal to walk upon another planet. And she did what she had to, follow tradition. Play Golf.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3348640719
(I now remember why i preferred spaceplanes for Eve. Not just for takeoff. The landing is BRUTAL and ill suited for capsule styles. Spaceplanes can brake for a way way longer time and cope with the extreme pressure a hundred times better.)
I ironed out as many wrinkles as I could find; I slapped as many descent parachutes as I could fit (and they are above the center of mass!), cranked out as much delta-V as I could, and even included science. Also, I even have the original crew, of Jeb, Bill, and Bob Kerman!
And so, I finally launched, and it wasn't during a blood Mun! And with it, I have verified, the Duna XL launch vehicle can, in fact, make it to orbit by itself. We did it, ladies and gentlemen, a single-use SSTO! GET OWNED, MATT LOWNE!!!
When I was actually doing the Kerbin escape burn, I actually detached the boosters a little too early, so they actually ran straight towards the rest of the rocket. I was worried critical parts like the solar panels would get damaged (I neglected to bring repair kits, after all) and the mission would have to abort, but the Seperatrons on the boosters were able to push the boosters away from the rocket before they could destroy anything.
And now, there the trio goes, off on a several-year journey to Duna. The KSP and their questionable ranks of "brave" kerbonauts are no longer strangers to interplanetary travel and visiting Duna. Only now, they're finally landing.
For real this time. I promise.
Here's the rocket, sitting on the pad on launch night: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3351741108
