1. garbage disposal. great way to get rid of things you don't need (tools/weapons with low durability) to keep that camp nice and tidy.
2. clearing aggressive bees. i'll plant the lureplant a small running distance away from the hives that way they don't eat the honey bees. once i catch a honey bee, i'll run to the lure plant and let it take the killer bees, that way i can catch bees (that belong to the specific hive) and destroy the hive without that small annoyance.
they're also great if you want to catch bees for the bee mine. just lure a bunch of bees into it and then destroy the lureplant before it digest them. it's faster than catching the bees one at time.
You do need several of the lureplants for hound defense, and it's tedious checking the status of the eyeplants, but they can be used for defense because you can plant them (almost) anywhere. In RoG, you can extinguish fires several ways (fertilizer, ice-staff, etc), so the lureplants actually become more useful against hounds (especially as there are now 3 non-winter seasons) as you can prevent the seeds being burnt. The point is to have a lot of different mob defenses against hounds until you have a panic room.
Next summer, I'm going to have the ice flingomatic, and hopefully I can set up some better mob defenses and start on a panic room. But in summer, if you don't have the ice flingomatic, you're pretty much confined to your base so lureplants are better than nothing.
Isn't it the exact opposite? If you don't have a ice flingomatic, won't your base just burn down if it's on your screen?
Yes, things don't burn when they're off screen completely. I've found perfectly fine twig plants and berry bushes in seperate biomes that wasn't in focus. Game gets real tough when you start in spring and you can't locate ice and enough stone/gold for the coming summer.
