Don't Starve

Why is my world always so friggin' huge?
When I started playing, I remember it took me two to three days to explore all that was important in my world. Reaching all the edges was quite fast and by the third-fifth day I already knew where to set up camp. However, now my worlds are always huge even though the settings have it as default. I recall changing world sizes once a long time ago and since then, my world have always been huge at default (I double checked multiple times to make sure I didn't leave it at the other sizes). Did I mess up my game files by changing the world size? Exploring now is a hassle as I'm always having trouble to find resources. I usually find one or two important ones, but can't for the life of me find anything else. Anyway I can make the worlds tiny again?

Are you playing Don't Starve Together? It has Large map as default.

No, it's been months I don't play it. I even uninstalled cos there was no reason to keep it up to date.

When did You start playing Don't Starve? Maybe Klei changed something since then like they came to conclusion that medium world ( by default ) was too small for so many players in multiplayer and they changed it to large. DS used to have islands connected with bridges in beta.

I have everything on default and my map is still pretty big so maybe it's normal.
You can post images of your world if you want.

Don't forget there's an element of randomness to generation, it could just be a coincidence :V

I actually had it since last year, I think. Bought it together with FEZ on a sale. DS doesn't have a multiplayer mode, though. DST is a standalone product, not a mode within the existing game. Therefore, makes no sense for them to apply such changes to both of them in that manner, but at the same time it makes sense that this might be happening bc of some update.

I don't think that's it :/ I restarted my world countless times when this started happening and the world size was always the same with default. Even started again a few times today (on different slots, even), but to no avail. I was hoping a dev would come and say what's happening. Pretty annoying to get ready for hounds when I need that amount of days just to explore the world and know where the resources are.

all dont starve worlds are big, no matter what, but you can change it in the world creation

But why wasn't default big before? There's no size smaller than default on world creation.

Devs added more biomes and needed room for them all. Or maybe dev just thought bigger world is better, I dunno. Either way I don't get why this upsets you.

But I already explained why :/

But you're acting like it's some huge problem when it's really not. You don't need a base to fight hounds. You don't even need to explore the whole map to setup a base. Your problems aren't problems. Just mild annoyances that can be accounted for by adjusting your strategy to suit your needs.

Well, it's actually complicated to adjust my strategy to suit my needs when I can't find stones. I've had many worlds where I spent days trying to find stones bc of how big the world is. Ended up with barely anything when hounds came around, which made the fight quite complicated. There's no progress without stones since you need them to build sciency stuff. So what's the point in playing at all if I can't progress and how is that not a problem?
Atwood Oct 23, 2015 @ 5:31am
You can't find stone? That's one of the most abundant resources. Sure you're not just having a run of bad luck? Cause stone is easy to find.

Well, now I can find them, but it wasn't that way when I noticed the world was huge at default. I could spend 6 days running around and not find stone biomes at all. There would be one or another boulder here and there, but gold nuggets are important and I needed more than a few boulders to eventually protect myself. As for the past 2 or 3 worlds I've made the last time I played, I could find stone biomes in the second or third day and it was always a party when I did. Still worries me that the world is so big on default. I'm having problems finding manure on the latest world. Didn't find beefalos yet and spotted one or two pig houses. The problem is that resources can get too scattered and in my case, sometimes I need too many days to find everything I'll need to survive. I remember reading in an old-ish guide that two to three days should be enough to find the most important resources and then you could use the remaining days until Winter to find the boundaries of the world, but that's not accurate anymore.

Dunno what to say? I pretty regularly reach day 50 in my games. Dunno why the early game is giving you a particularly hard time. The first few waves of hound are barely an annoyance for the most part.

The hounds aren't much of a problem, resources are. Also, each person is different :/ It's the same game, but each one experiences it differently.
