Don't Starve

Don't Starve

hamlet world is too small
the world is maybe 1/3 of the base game size, and about 1/5 of shipwrecked. the world is way to small, and the islands need two be 2 or 3 times bigger.

I like hamlet and I know klei will make it great but my point is simply that the default world size is way to small
Wow thanks. Not buying Hamlet then.

I prefer the smaller size map tbh. Less time spent running the edge of the map and more time playing. And to be fair a lot of hamlet is not on the map. There are ruins, caves and ant lairs that don't show on the map.

First of all I want to say that I find the price completely okay, I don't regret buying it and I'm sure they put a lot of work into this DLC.

But in comparison it really looks a lot smaller. I would be okay with it if the gameplay was enough, but I'm not sure yet if that's even the case.
I have died pretty often so far and I haven't discovered everything yet, but from what I read and saw so far it seems a bit lacking. The new things to discover and play with seem to be the caverns and the trades with the villagers but both of them could become really repetitive easily I think. I haven't even played that much and I already think the trades are becoming boring, especially because there's not much reason to do the trades in the first place. Buying the house and decorating it is a really neat idea, but if you get unlucky your map will suck and the house will be in a weird place where you might not even want to bother living in it. Would be cool to be able to move it wherever you want it in town and add a garden or something.

This went a bit off topic and was suddenly about gameplay, sorry! :steamfacepalm:
I just wanted to agree that I'm not sure yet how to feel about the smaller map because the gameplay seems lacking to me as well.

I can agree with this, I simply was surprised at the map size so I posted about it.

Also of topic but you can build houses anywhere later on.

well theres still alot of content in hamlet. It comes from more detail in this world not just base size

Size does not matter.
You ee-peens.
:gaper:

jokes aside:

(RoG had and has so much of it (blend, boring content))

It's one thing to skim through wikia and read description content and it's another when you play because you get a feel of the game. and bigger world would be waste of time, because Hamlet plays so differently from DS you know.

Everything revolves around the city, and as of now more elements around it and to it is what hamlet needs. Sorry to say, but maybe Hamlet is just not you cup of tea, because design philosophy is different.

I avoid EA too, like a plague but I have been with Don't Starve since it's EA, so for me it was no brainer to buy it.
+1
@haters you are just obeying your pre chosen destiny. You bought 1 crappy EA game aka now all EA games are trash and just loathe and want them to fail.

It*s really simple, if you like the lore of wilson and DS , buy hamlet because it adds alot new mechanics on a beautiful world.
If you hate tim burton / halloween / 2d cartoon games, simply skip it.

I nearly explored 100% shipwrecked maps, no not cause i'm a noob, but it was never required. I enjoy the building meta and just fighting bosses and what not. And for that you don't need endless 45 GB worlds.

Just look at the state of DST. It's hardly worth it to explore any map 100%. You just need vital setpieces like mctusk camps, ruins ancient guardian, bee queen spawn and oasis.
That's what? 2% of DST content? People still enjoy the game and building crazy labyrinth and structures.

The top layer could be a tad bigger, however, I think you forgot about the caves, ruins and ant layers.

well I kind of think the map needs to be a little bit bigger cause the tall grass all bunched up in one area, makes the game stutter a bit

I didnt count pig caves and if we count extra areas im sure it would be much bigger and about shipwrecked size. BUT rog has seven large areas if you count all the caves and ruins so my point still stands.
Gunhaver Nov 12, 2018 @ 2:27pm
ROG is big, but it was an expansion as well; It added on the caves and ruins. The world didn't start three layers thick.

Set world to large in the settings. Also, it's ridiculous to complain about the price of the DLC considering Hamlet is very labour-heavy in design compared to say, RoG. So many brand new mechanics. Furthermore, you can always world-jump for resources. I personally love that it's small, and set it to even smaller. I want to have everything within reach, not travel four days to get a resource.

well the main issue right now is that everything is squished together, I think things need to spread out a bit, also unless today recent update fixed it the world setting dont work, so changing the world size to large does nothing

True that! But then again, I'm always annoyed that the world is *too* large. I am bored to death using ten days just to explore a fourth of the map, and since seasons in Hamlet are only 11 days, you have no time to waste on pointless exploration of the same old biomes. Everything you need in Shipwrecked is too far away. I consider Hamlet to be perfectly sized, and it's not to ignore that there are many caves and lairs, waiting to be explored. I'm eager to find out how to get to the other islands too, especially to figure out what the strange things on them are. I'm very satisfied with Hamlet, way better than RoG in my opinion.

I know that EA gets a bad rep, butt there are some good early access games too.
