What he said made sense though. I just started playing and there was the first human encounter situation and I was behind a wall, so I decided to peek over the top of wall to check where they were moving, an NPC literally said, "I DON'T THINK WE'RE ALONE", turns around 180 and headshots me across the level while I'm supposed to be barely peeking over the wall with just my eyes.
If you just started playing....I believe that NPC is going to notice you no matter what you do. The lean to peak is fine and is nowhere near broken.
Yeah I had no problems with it either. Then again I used it very quickly, pulling my head back and made more use of the tracker.
The first encounter they are going to see you instantly.
That's exactly the issue though. I went through the entire game on hard without being noticed by any enemy by not using the lean to peek, staring the enemy straight in the face while only partially behind cover. It's only when I used lean to peek that they detect me. And I have to disagree with the first encounter. I dont know what people are saying that they see you instantly. I didn't have that experience.
I've also experienced that peeking makes enemies spot you faster than walking around in the middle of a room. And that goes for all the enemy types, Alien, human and androids all get hak eyes when you're peeking, and seem to walk around with blindfolds when you're out in the open.
Not that walking in the open is adviseable, you're still going to get spotted.
But peeking in-game is basically like waving a huge neon sign saying "Im right here!" around the cover you're behind.
Peeking does seem utterly useless in this game. I had the same experience as you with my first human encounter, and also can't understand why people are saying you get spotted instantly? I just did a regular walk around the edge of the room to the generator controls with no issue.
I only eventually got spotted as I went through the vents and stood next to the window where (the girl I think?) was stationed. I thought I was screwed, but she just tried to shoot at the window and I easily escaped by running to the edge of the big room again.
