Anyway, just like you said, using someone with a lot of boost (AGES with the Console Mod for an example) can be a good thing to do. I personally use Metal Sonic for a lot of my races, and I keep his stats at default (no mod).
Speed is pretty useless to be honest. Boost is where it's at.
As my own preference - Gum & Beat Console Mod - 4/2/1/5. Be vary that I can easly handle 1-Handling car, but for newcomers this can be problematic.
Also, Balanced characters are also nice - for example Knuckles or NIGHTS Standard Mod 3/3/3/3.
haven't found any character to be better or worse. i like running characters with some handling and alot of boost though

I dunno, I just feel the AI rubberbands/cheats way too much in this one and thats just plain frustrating. I'm sure with enough time I'll beat every mission on S-Class but... I don't forsee it being actually fun. =/
