Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion v1.97 Release
Ironclad Games and Stardock are pleased to announce Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion v1.97.

Change Notes:
  • All localisations are now part of the base game.
  • Language can be changed via the in-game options. We strongly recommend restarting the game after changing language to update cached strings.
  • Changed hardware cursor to be the default; this prevents crashes with some systems.
  • All online interactions are now encrypted.
  • Misc. other stability fixes.

Note: If you took part in the pre-release opt-in, make sure you change your ICO Server Port back to 8000.

Try following some of the suggestions in this thread, including disable full screen optimization for Windows 10. It's a very common cause of game load crashes.

After the latest patch to the latest game update, the game now runs properly as it did before.
However the game now freezes at regular intervals every few minutes during autosaves. It didn't do that before the latest patch...
In fact I never noticed the game auto-saving before.
I'm not running any mods, nor multiplayer.
Please Help.

Can you put up a save game this happens in?
This is strange: If I browse to local disk C (etc)>user>Sins>Auto save I only find a save from 2017.
I won the game I was playing yesterday and I deleted my 5 manual saves.
I only do manual saves at critical points in the game.

I never noticed the game autosaving before this update. Maybe it was doing so in the background but it was unnoticeable because the game never froze for a few seconds.
I did not notice any UI controls for managing auto-saves.
Maybe the files are saved as hidden files in another location or maybe the auto-saving process was modified by the update?

Could you give me some guidance to find those hidden files and how and where to upload them? I don't even remember if I ever made a Stardock account because I only play single player games.

Best regards.
The launcher has a settings button. I found "autosave tick frequency 900"
?

Since the update, the game freezes more often, probably during an autosave attempt and then has to be restarted. We play Sins for a long time and regularly in multiplayer with 3 people, but 3 crashes in one evening we have never had, we then gave up in frustration, is so hardly playable!
I finally found a way to turn off autosaves.

In the save game screen you have an option at the bottom to "change save type" and there is a check box you can uncheck to turn off autosaves. But I don't ever remember having to do that in the past. I don't have crashes at least. The game sometimes freezes at launch and I need to ALT-TAB and skip the error message and it plays ok after that.

Still, I think the last update was unneeded and harmful and I wish we had the option to revert to the last version which had always worked fine.
never had problems with autosave, always worked. So whats the new 300kb update for ?

Update Notes for v1.974
Minor update to address multiplayer compatibility with Gamepass crossplay.
Yarlen  [kehittäjä] 9.8.2022 klo 9.57
Should restore multiplayer crossplay between Steam, GOG and Gamepass.
But why? Theres a perfect option in steam to pick a language. Whats the point of it?
I'm only getting crashes when we try to play this game in LAN since the last update.
We've tried verifying files, we've tried removing mods, we just get crashes and mini dumps.

Single Player has been fine.

star dock is actively nuking this game via a recent update to force people to buy the new version. my game keeps doing everything it can to keep me from winning! like it 0's out the damage my ships do so that the AI ships aren't taking any damage in fights, at a cretin point in the game it starts generating new units for both the AI and me at a like a 25-1 ratio, when i start attacking literally anything all of the AIs seem to attack me out of the blue like it was coordinated at my most vonerable areas like they can see everything, enemy fleets just push through multiple heavily guarded systems without stopping to attack them go to my home system and wipe it out ending the game, the tec trees of every playable faction seem to have drastically changed to make it much harder, my allys just sit in their home system without doing anything, pirate bidding is majorly disadvantaged and my ships seem to be moving a 25% of normal speed while AI moves at 125% speed and i could go on and on...... this sucks because i loved this game it was literally an epic treasure. its not ok that they are nuking it like this its literally souring the star dock brand for me super hard and i was a #1 fan boy for their games. the crazy thing is that they can only do it because steam itself is allowing it if it was an old school game with a hard download or a disk it literally couldn't happen. steam is complicit in letting it happen i wounder how many other games on the steam platform this is happening to.

how do we fix this???????? im very frustrated so im going to post this everywhere until i get some help hopefully some one from steem who can do something sees this
This is so bloody wrong. I hope they come to their senses. For me Sins was the only Stardock game I was ever able to enjoy because the rest were unplayable or simply not interesting. Anyone remember Elemental? I think it got rebranded ''Fallen enchantress''. Never was able to enjoy that hot garbage. I share your pain.

Sins is a game that I like to replay once in a while to scratch that SF itch. It used to be borderline playable in its first version when the AI used dogpiling tactics against the player before it was properly balanced.

Some Steam games allow you to revert to a previous version if you browse the BETA tab. I hope that is allowed for this game.

Anyway thanks for the warning. People need to know about this.
