if you only have enemy unknown, then you can still ignore/delay this mission and it will keep asking you (but obviously it wasn't intended to be delayable, which is why they patched it for the expansion).
I get that mission again just before first terror mission. I did it on Classic in EU and I get Muton instead of Chryssalid.
1. In EU u can delay Slingshot forever, in EW u delay it and loose the chance to do the Missions forever.
2. the Last Enemy in "Friends in Low Places" is difficulty based, Normal and below Crysalid, classic and above Muton.
It looks that you will get Muton if you will delay that mission, regardless what difficulty level is.
and you really should be ready. and its a glitch regardless.
in EW its not delayable except it occurs slightly later. I think like a month later.
But it is too hard for me to do that on Impossible difficulty without delaying. I am wondering what is better: to take Slingshot and delay missions or to take normal Council missions and hope for not getting Bomb Disposal mission.
are you in EU on impossible? or EW?
I can't see many videos on youtube for EU. saw one but he failed.
I assume if its EU its a march council mission. if so Its not too much effort to get to that point in the game and walk you thru it.
Yeah slingshot mission 1 took me 23 minutes to complete impossible mode. several loads because ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up.
at the end I checked and looked like I lost my save so I'll have to replay the previous mission before I could attempt it again clean.
looks like the same drop ins as Classic, just more HP on the monsters.
you start with 2 thins dropping in.
then 1 thin and one sectoid.
then one thin
then 1 muton and one thin
then one thin and one sectoid
then one....sectoid? can't remember the last monster.
If you get close and overwatch with a shotgun and then use a shotgun on the next turn thats a minumum of 6 damage, to kill a thin, pretty much 100% odds if you have a close range flank. should deal with the thins and sectoid drop ins.
so all thats left is the 2 sectoids who exist on the map without dropping in, and the muton.
In EU.
I tried to do that mission on my first Impossible Ironman run and lot of my soldiers were wounded or dead after previous missions.
all you really need is assaults. 5 squaddie assaults would be fine. could try it with rookies if you want.
just get really close to the spawns and overwatch.
there are only 2 sectoids on the map at start.
everything is a drop in, and you should be able to have 5 flanking overwatch shots on them as they drop in.
even rookies should be able to manage that.
On Classic in EU I get that mission in April again (just before first terror mission), not March. I suppose it also works on Impossible in that way.
Getting 5 assaults in first month (and Squad Size I) doesn't look like easy task ;D I thought that it is hard to play on Impossible aggresively flanking.
I read that you will be prompted about Slingshot DLC before every Council mission in EU until you accept to get Slingshot DLC mission: http://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php/Slingshot_DLC_(EU2012)
So it can be more profitable to do some normal Council mission in first month than ignoring "Friends in Low Places" mission.
In EW (u dont will get asked ingame there but must check its option when u start a game) it is better implemented and dont appears as first month mission because that, but than u must do it at once or loose the chance.
Er....I Went in with 2 assaults 1 heavy 1 sniper and 1 support.
its not hard to play IMPOSSIBLE agressively flanking. its hard to play IRONMAN classic/impossible agressively flanking.
on the friends in low places however all you have are 2 sectoids, so yes. you can and should play it agressively flanking. because there are only 2 sectoids. ideally pegging them with a shredder rocket.
You only have 2 drop ins when things drop in. one overwatching assault can deal with one thin man overwatch = 3 damage, +shot on turn 3 damage = dead thinman
So the only variables you need to deal with is.
1.) getting your assaults to the proper positions and overwatching.
2.) getting rid of the 2 sectoids as cleanly as possible.
3.) getting rid of the muton who has too many HPS to kill with this strat reliably.
