I have been telling ppl to give their heavies a scope on this forum for months, makes a difference to em dont it? Late game, ghost armor is very handy on heavies too, enables em to get into position to fire a rocket into a sectopod's face without being molested.... Supports with sprinter work well with the arc thrower, especially if they have deep pockets and can carry a medkit too, if u dont need to capture live aliens then stims or chitin plating for the second slot both work well..... My sprinter supports tend to do my scouting, unless i know/suspect someone is on overwatch, in which case its a job for an assault with lightning reflexes, oh and alien grenades or medkits can be handy on any class on bomb disposal missions where you are up to your eyeballs in thin men, same as chitin plating for a terror mission where you are potentially up to said eyeballs in chryssalids, chitin plating lets a soldier survive the first chryssalid attack... most times.....

My heavies get scopes before the snipers do.

Assault and arc. Who else is going to get close enough?

I use the arcs on support. They move further and have an extra inventory slot available for it so why not?

Scopes on sniper. Chitin on assault and alien grenades on heavies (2 grenades upgrade).

For multiplayer it would be different.

Alien grenades on heavies are just so good! With H.E.A.T. Ammo, Grenadier and Bullet swarm, you could finish that Cyberdisk/Sectopod with a 100% 10 damage hit after firing with your LMG.

I'm thinking of upgraded S.C.O.P.E. on Rapid Fire+Agression rifle assaults, who tried?

The problem with the arc thrower on an assault is that u cant use it after run and gun, hence my sprinter supports get arcs, because they are able to run further...

Medikit on sniper during council missions only (I think the poison resistance is way better than +1O aim, especially considering the fact that poison causes a -2O aim penalty).
Cougarific Feb 7, 2013 @ 1:56pm
Why in heaven's name would anybody give a scope to a sniper? That's total overkill. The Heavies are the ones that need the boost to Aim.
Gurggulk Feb 7, 2013 @ 2:34pm
Heavy may very well need the boost because aim sucks overall for the class. The rocket makes up for this lack of accuracy.

When scopes are rare, and only one can be bought for the squad, Sniper gets it hands down.

I'll routinly give my snipers a scope early on to cut down on misses. After aim is up above 90, then the one and only scope can go to the Heavy.
Oh wait, actually i never give the scope away. My snipers enjoy using scopes way to much.

Besides, if my heavy needs a scope, it gets bought.

Works for me. Gets my sniper kills especially after squadsight. My heavy's don't qq about it.

Everybody give a scope to their sniper because it makes him even better at aiming (A soldier is NEVER too good at shooting, especially when you start fighting muton elite on classic/impossible difficulty that has some ridiculously high defense). This is also because there is no real other good item to give to a sniper (especially if you play a squad sight sniper). 99% of the time, this soldier stand way to far from the action to be using most part of the items (Maybe I'm doing wrong but I never found any good item to give to the sniper besides the scope or the medikit during the council mission).
However, an heavy with a scope is a good choice as well.

I also react on what was said before. Honestly, I believe that the assault is the WORSE class to give a arc thrower to. They can't move further than a simple rookie (can't R&G and use the arc) and they are quiet often the best backup option if the arc thrower happen to miss.
This class is only good for carrying an arc thrower if you bring two of them on mission (one with the arc, the other to cover his ass)

I'm agree with who said that the best class to carry an arc thrower is the support (I'd say that a rookie could be a fairly good choice as well).

Yes rookies also carries arc throwers quite often in my games but I usually prefer to give them alien grenades instead so they can make some kills. As soon as you have 2 inventory slot for support you have your arc guy imo.

In certain missions like the last one I would switch the arc with a stim pack.

Yeah, once you have captured all the types of enemy that are possible, theres not much point keeping on doing it, I go for stims or chitin plating, depending on the mission, the great thing about stims in single player, is that you can keep using them, they arent one shot like in multiplayer....

Chitin Plating and mind shield.

arc thrower for support(s) if you take goliath with squad or need some free weapons

scope for sniper if he is blind, but if you use second wave you can get very good sniper by hire/dismiss soldiers
