Rookie rank abbreviation not showing up in roster
Okay, this is a weird problem, but when I check my roster, the abbreviation for Rookie (which is Rk.) isn't in front of any Rookie's name. I'll see other rank abbreviations, but for the Rookies in the group, there's no rank indicated, just their name, as if they were civilians.

I've already verified the game's cache through Steam, where it found a file missing and downloaded it. That didn't seem to make a difference.

I realize this doesn't impact the gameplay, but it's weird and I remember seeing the Rookie rank abbreviated on the roster a few days ago. Did the new patch get rid of it?

I think that the new patch eliminated it. I'm baffled as to why. But ok, fine.

Further proof that rookies are rankless cannon fodder.

I'm not a military man, but I thought Squaddie and Rookie were both slang for Private anyway, depending on what country one came from. I may be wrong though since I never served.

So this kind of makes sense to deferentiate the ranks if both terms mean the same thing.

XCom is more of a para-military organization and even if it wasn't, as far as the game is concerned, the ranks of Rookie and Squaddie are different.

One can imagine rookies aren't part of the structure until they are promoted. As in, they're hired in on a trial basis until they prove they have what it takes, then they get a specialization, rank, etc.

Perhaps, but why did the Rookie rank and its abbreviation appear before now?

Yes, that's the whole point of the thread lol.

I was watching a Let's Play that was made pre-patch last night. I noticed the rookie rank abbr. was not used in the roster.

Mass delirium it appears, nothing has changed there.

Well, I do remember the "Rk." being there. It's even here in IGN's guide to the game: http://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki/apis.ign.com/xcom-enemy-unknown/thumb/3/3d/Xcom111111.png/468px-Xcom111111.png

It's possible that's an early version of the game and it was changed before release. However, I do seem to recall seeing the Rookie abbreviation on the roster after I first installed it.

Yep a lot of us do remember it. It could be mass hysteria/halucination, but it's more likely that it was there then not there (and maybe not there at a different time).
