Problem running Enemy Within and Net Framework

Hi Guys
I have just installed Windows 8.1 and Steam along with the program Enemy Within on my desktop computer but each time I go to play EW I am told I need to install Microsoft Net Framework 3.5. I go to try and install this but it says it can't as I have no internet connection but in fact I do. But with Windows 8.1 you get Net Framework 4.5, my question is why does this not allow me to run EW? I have previously instaled all the same on my lap top and all ran fine???? Anyone had this problem?

Enemy Unknown/Within does run on Windows 8 and 8.1 as I run it on my laptop a little less detail in graphics but none the less it runs it.

Wasn't that long ago, only 2012. The store page does mention only Vista & 7, however. I did a Google search on this; looks like an Intel graphics driver (igdumd.dll) may be the cause of it. Long story short, if you're using an Intel graphics card, you probably aren't going to be able to run the game.

One thing you might try that sometimes helps with these problems, try running the game as Admin. You'll need to set the executable to run as admin rather than trying to do it manually considering the game has to be launched from a launcher since the addition of the expansion pack. I can provide instructions on how to do that if needed.

intel wouldnt work on windows7? as i was sayin, theres a much easier way just a push of a button. ill let you figure it out tho.

Seems to me like Archael is trolling. He's saying there's an easy solution, yet he won't disclose the information. Probably best to ignore him unless he gives some real information.

Because I think he's pulling your leg. He don't likely have any information on the situation, he's just leading you guys on. I may not entirely know the cause of the situation, but I'm at least trying to help out. Almost done compliling this game support update, I'll take a look at trying to manually extract the pack in a bit.

Okay. Looks like you can extract the installer in any archive program, getting it to run afterwards may be a bit of a problem however, so you might have to just extract the files into the target location directly. Looks like the one I listed has 2.0, 3.0 & 3.5 in the same installer, so not sure why it's asking for older versions to be installed if they're already included in this installer (maybe updated files to older versions). When you ran the installer & it said you needed a previous version, were you running the version I linked or the version that was posted directly under the OP?

One thing I am seeing when I try to run it directly is that it seems to just be simply extracting files to my computer. It may be you'll need to restart your computer before the changes will take effect.

because youre rude ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trying to act like programmers. theres too many of you here. once somebodys basically a lil prick i dont do favors. one even claims to be a 'game dev pro' whatever that means. a website crawling with game developers and gee i wonder why nobody else helped. this should be a simple fix. have fun.

actually im not knocking cosa he does make killer mods. still this ones easy its funny. and jan you were cool. ill help you if you send a friend request. i just am not gonna argue in forums with these kids. im not a programmer or anything just a fellow gamer like many who evolved into learning tricks to make steam games work. i do work with them tho and games and learned a few tricks myself. so im not totally sure i can help but im pretty sure i can as im on a 4 year old laptop also and had similar problems just the other way around. even if theres no trick that will work downloading the program is actually pretty easy also. that guys making it way too complicated. i dont know why its always the people who dont know what they are doing who are the first to act like they do and try to help. then if somebody else can or starts to make a suggestion they try to insult them lol. sorry im not dealing with that this morning. im a grown up and have to do stuff everyday so i dont have time for it. and yes its literally a click of the button for all 3 ways im thinking to make it work and anybody seriously who knew the first thing about games or computers should have this fixed in a few seconds as its a very basic thing. and im sure alot who knows looked at this thread and left it. because usually it doesnt take a genius to fix stuff, it takes a idiot to stop talking.

first of all Archael, we'llo be gratefull if you'll help us, but take your time while texting. Your first comment cannot be that the game is too old, because it looks like you don't even know what we are talking about. this is the list of my try and I'm pretty sure there is not a way so simple like pushing a button. I hope I'm wrong anyway :D

Janssenp, if you downgrade to win 8 you'll lose everything, that's why I didn't do that. Do you know why? Because we upgraded to 8.1 and our serial key still belongs to win 8. If we did not upgrade we could have the chance to restart win 8 with our personal data.

Anyway, the problem is not this game. The problem is this framework 3.5. This iswhat I tried:
1) windows update (error 0x800F0906)
2) run dotnetfx35 and dotnetfx35setup from windows website
3) these "solutions" (1,2 and 3): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2734782
3bis) these "solutions" http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx
4) a lot of different ways to force the third microsoft solution, there is even a software to do that offline (I can link it, but it doesn't help us)
5) AND MOST IMPORTANT IMHO: download and run dotNeFx35_W8.1_x64 that is what windows update tries to download. It extract the file, autorun cmd and have the same f*****g problem (cannot find the files)
6) in control panel-programs-activate/disactivate windows funtionality

I also had error 0x800f0922 but I cannot remember when :S

I forget:

Installing a Windows language pack before installing the .NET Framework 3.5 will cause the .NET Framework 3.5 installation to fail. Install the .NET Framework 3.5 before installing any Windows language packs.

could it be the problem?

If you weren't trolling, then I apologize for the allegation. However when you state, "I know the fix, but I'm not telling you" (at least this is the bases that it looks like behind your statement), that makes you look like you're trolling. If you really do know the fix, then provide it & prove me wrong for making the accusation.

@Elsewyr,
Have you tried the installer that I've provided yet? From the looks of it, it has 2.0, 3.0 & 3.5 included, so the only reason I could see for it not working would be if you don't have required versions of .NET Framework before 2.0.
