I REALLY wish I could give this a non-vote instead of positive or negative. All of the elements are there for something fun; I save downvotes for games to avoid at all costs. This is playable. All of its individual elements work. But it's ultimately frustrating because it falls short in such avoidable ways.

The game is held back by consistent, egregious balance issues. They developed different sword and bow playstyles, then nerfed the bow class to unusability by making its damage half that of the sword, AND by making skill/magic damage based purely on the physical attack stat from your weapon (!). There is never any excuse to equip anything but the highest attack-value sword in your inventory, because otherwise you make the already grindy combat take twice as long for no benefit. They try to balance this by forcing you to hit enemies with basic attacks to recharge your magic meter, but life-steal applies to basic attacks so you want to do that regularly anyhow, at the highest DPS you can muster. The healing items are also so absurdly underpowered that, again, the only wings worth equipping are the ones with the highest life-steal you can find (you can craft some early, and you can get the best ones as a common drop from the cave bat boss). There's a fantastic variety of magic spells with different utility; but you can only equip four at a time and have to go home to change your loadout; and again, there are some that are objectively so superior in DPS output -- such as the final fire spell -- that you just equip the best once you have them. It would have taken very little effort to give you different upgrade paths toward different builds.

Most enemies have trivial attack patterns and telegraph them for easy dodging. But they get the same status effects you do, including freeze and stun. This means that in a few areas, such as the winter zone, if you get hit once you sit there totally unable to control your character as the enemies keep piling on and you die. (As far as I can tell there is only one equippable item which gives you status effect resistance, and it's a measly +20% global resist chance.) There's also a few enemies with poison or fire infliction, which will reliably kill you until you get the absurdly overpowered late-game armor, because there are zero items in the game which allow you to cancel status ailments. I could go on but it's just more like this. Things that are common as dirt in games of this type that have no reason not to be here because all of the elements to support them are already in place.

I truly hope the developers learn from their experience making this and can smooth their next game out. It's bewildering how polished this is aside from the very obvious and recurring flaws.

It's not my favorite game in the world. It's decent. I struggled to get into it. I liked the fighting mechanics and learning new spells etc, but I just lost interest in it quickly.
