Starfield ssd vs sshd?
I know it says req ssd but will a seagate FireCuda sshd be ok.
I'm sure i saw a website selling starfield hdd for xbox series s/x

I know its early days yet.
i did looked up my hdd and it says this.

FireCuda delivers faster load speeds for nonstop performance and play
Save time with a drive that boots in seconds, not minutes
Get in the game up to 5× faster than traditional hard drives.
So i'm hoping it works ok for the game

If not i suppose i'll have to bite the bullet and get another ssd,as my windows one is not big enough to install the game on as well.

1TB 970 EVO + enclosure goes around $100 on Amazon. If you have a Thunderport/USB-C it's a viable option.

tbh i know the prices of ssds. if i'm forced to get one i would get a 2tb one for my ps5 and use the 1tb in my ps5 for my pc.
but before i start spending money i'm just wondering if a sshd would be fast enough.

None of us is able to tell you at this moment. Assuming that the ssd "requirement" is a strict one, then it might not be what the devs have in mind.

A sshd is "hybrid" but it is still a HDD, just that it has a small amount of nand cache and dram to help speed things up. It's faster than a hdd but it's still much slower than full fledged nand nvme ssd.

I'm going to go with...it depends. Maybe. You can't look at the raw performance specs as comparison, because the only part of the SSHD that gets a huge performance boost is the cache. The actual live game performance of the SSHD depends on usage. If you play several games the cache is of significantly lesser utility. And it depends on how big the cache is and how much the game needs. For instance, if you have an 8GB cache but the game wants to load 16GB, then no. You're playing off the HDD. Or if the cache is loaded from something you played last night and it needs to load Starfields data, you won't get SSD level performance because of overwrites.

To be on the safe side, I would get an SSD if you are planning to play Starfield.

EDIT: If you plan on playing day 1, get an SSD. If you don't mind waiting and putting off your storage buy for the game to release and learn more, then that's what you can do.

This is the hdd spec.
Seagate FireCuda HDD, 8 TB, Internal Hard Drive SSHD - 3.5 Inch CMR SATA 6 Gb/s 7,200 RPM 256 MB Cache.
Yeah i know its early days yet.
Its a shame the devs don't respond on this forum.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a similar FireCuda SSHD, but a smaller 1 TB version.

I’ve never heard of a SSHD 😳
I saw someone else with a hybrid SSHD having issues similar to those running on an HDD. (Mostly audio desyncs, which seems to be a major issue without an SSD in this game.) But that's one case and annecdotal of course. I would recommend an SSD, as even my SATA 6 SSD is, while smooth most of the time, subject to worse cell loading stutter and dips when it does happen than I've seen people with good NVMe SSD's have. Suggesting it really is a major bottleneck in this game.

What I can say for sure though, is that the game will boot and run. You just may have perf and audio sync issues among other things. People are running it on HDDs and SSHD's. It's just not recommended, and really, an SSD is a legitimate minimum requirement for intended functionality in this game.

I brainfarted and read HDD and have deleted. Not seen anyone say about an SSHD so marking the thread for my own knowledge.

It's not really worth getting the hybrid these days. Go for a SATA SSD if you want to save money. Use the HDD for mass storage. The hybrid were a niche thing that isn't really useful if you can install more than one drive and therefore do better than that hybrid ever could.

If you have it already then sure, it would be better than the normal HDD in performance.

Samsung 2TB External was 90 bucks at Bestbuy. It's speed is 1050 mb/second. It worked like a charm for me.

Yes, I would say in this special case right now as the code stands it is SSD or bust if you want to have a nice experience. Better to wait until you have one so you get the best first impression and fun rather than frustration and grow to hate it when you could have enjoyed it.

Can confirm, Starfield on Firecuda SSHD is a no go. Stutter city. I moved it to my SSD and it is smooth as can be.
