The future of Starfield is just watching Bethesda quietly move on while the remaining fans pretend everything’s fine.
Nothing is known about future updates at this time, and there is no public roadmap. The previous roadmap included a loose schedule for updates "roughly every six weeks," and plans to implement several specific features, all of which were implemented over the course of the game's first year of life.
Following the major September 30th 2024 update and the release of Shattered Space, they announced they were relaxing the update cadence and would no longer be aiming for the "roughly every six weeks" timing.
The only other thing known is that they had at least one other expansion planned (but it has not been officially confirmed or announced - the planning of it was merely mentioned,) and that they have aspirations to release one such expansion each year. Whether that actually happens still or not remains to be seen.
The most recent patch was in November.
2. Last update was a patch that mostly addressed the recently released DLC issues.
3. Nope.
4. No, and no company is obligated to provide you with a business plan. According to the last interview with Todd, there are planned periodic content releases, at least one per year. We don't really know anything about the next expansion. The only thing we know is that BGS trademarked "Starborn".
There are also new Creations, both paid and free, that release frequently.
Or you can do like some people and just hang out dooming and glooming because it didn't release with 1000's of mods like Skyrim did.......wait no...it took years for Skyrim to get those 1000s of mods and even more for them to be the refined version they are today.
Well you can always just hang out then.
Its been less than a year since the CK released (I think around may 2024). Its been 4 months since the last DLC (shattered Storm Oct 2024). The last update was November 2024 (Along with some 3 free Creations (Thanksgiving Quest, Doom POI and Weapoin/armor, and a new Type of buggy).
2) Shattered Space patch I would assume. Probably fixed some game breaking stuff, but didn't so anything beyond that as most of the patches for Starfield have been real low effort by the dev team (especially when compared to Cyberpunk).
3) Nope, probably at least 1 more DLC, but the game may be abandoned.
4) Nope, Bethesda is been quiet.
Cyberpunk peak is 1054K , DLC pushed players to 275K, current is about 60K-70K. The DLC recovered 26% of peak and 6% of the peak are currently playing. All of these numbers are 3x Starfield for retention/returning/new players.
There are currently more people playing Fallout 4 than Starfield.

Welcome back! You've come at a pretty good time, the game has improved in a number of ways. Here's a list of things you can look forward to!
Most of the major gameplay bugs were squashed, as far as I'm aware. I do recommend staying away from Nexus Mods for now (and 'Engine Fixes'/ Unofficial Patches), unless you're sure about certain Mods. Many of them are causing terrible issues, and the blame is being thrown at Bethesda. If you wanna Mod the game, get things from the Creations Store instead!
It's sorta recent, but hard to say exactly, because Bethesda has been secretly updating the game, without adding the changes they've been making in any of the patch notes. For example, I've come across [2] new Enemy Base location-types in the Vanilla game and have more customization of NPC Companions that didn't exist before.
It's tough to know what was a bug fix and what was a newer addition?
Rumors have been going around that the next DLC after Shattered Space will be titled "Starborn". I can only assume that everything having to do with 'that' part of the story-line will get some kind of overhaul, and some newer additions to Starborn powers and abilities. There is a Mod that makes Starborn encounters more interesting, like being the Leader of "Criminal Groups", and sometimes hiding in-plain-sight as a normal NPC.
It's not confirmed if we'll see anything like this, but if it's a possibility, that's certainly an update I'm looking forward to!
Well, Todd and Company assure us that they have every intention of supporting Starfield for a long time, longer than any other game they have so far, but they've been hush-hush about anything new they're planning outside of DLC. Stuff just kinda 'drops', and you'll find out via YouTube, via Steam Updates or checking out the Creations Store.
Edit: I forgot to mention that some newer gameplay options were added-in too, like removing the "face zoom" when talking to NPC, and the ability to toggle difficulty settings that add or subtract a certain percentage of XP received, like the need to eat or drink, and environmental hazards, etc.
