Why would you have two ships?
So, I was stupid, I thought I could make a heavy freighter and a nimble fighter. Each for their own purposes, heavy scavenging with freighter and known non-hostile environments and the fighter for more dangerous missions/undertakings.

But the cargo gets transferred to your "home ship" automatically, nothing you can do about it, I was so disappointed with that after spending over two hours making my freighter. So if I want to use the fighter ... well ... it has over a 1k raw materials in it and nothing fits in it anymore plus the fact that the added weight doesn´t make it that nimble anymore.

So there is no real reason to have 2 ships unless I misunderstood something.

I need to redesign my freighter to be a fighter as well I guess.

It's a one ship game.

Yeah unfortunately the game doesn't handle multiple ships well at the moment. What with interior item placement getting reset every time you edit anything or change ships. And the forced cargo transfer. Hopefully it's changed or modded.

Why on dead earth are you trying to lug around a cargo hold full of goods on new missions instead of selling those goods?

Yeah, I really went out of my way to do a certain very dangerous mission to get a new ship, all for nothing. They also sell for very little, especially if you have to register them.

Raw materials I have been gathering on 2 planets ... mostly. Need those later.

I had this happen as well. It transferred 1300 cargo to a 200 cargo ship but still seemed to work. Major oversight when switching ships

There is a way around this.

1. Part the ship out completely.
2. You get the credits for the pieces.
3. Build a bare bones ship that qualifies as flyable and only use parts that you sold in step 1.
4. Exit ship builder and you get the credits for the parts you sold but did not use again.
5. Sell the ship. You get credits on top of the credits you earned by parting the ship out.

The idea is to get money for the parts you won't use on a new ship but you are only building a basic crappy ship to satisfy the 'flyable' requirements. And on top of that you are using parts that you sold so when you re-use them they cost nothing.

Yeah, if you steal a ship all your hard work placing stuff will get undone on your usual home ship. As far as I see it there is no point in customising a ship beyond modules.

i could manage if you didnt need to pay 85% of the ships value to register it, getting chump change back as a result.. but that is a pain to deal with, and makes it pointless

Best thing I have found is get used to depositing materials/resources in the basement of The Lodge (unlimited space). Atleast till we can get a mod to change how ships function.

Well, thanks folks for the heads up, back to the drawing board.

no point in having multiple ship , keep the more powerfull, sell the other once you have the money build your ultimate ship

A shame you can't have a small active fleet.

That would require more interactions with wings and fleets and turn the game into more of an RTS than an RPG. It would not work well in this game.

I haven't maxed out the commerce skill, but I did find a magazine that does a similar thing to prices to a smaller extent. I'e pretty sure the commerce skill affects ship selling. I'm wondering if capturing and selling ships becomes worth it if we max out the commerce skill and read the related magazine.
Not sure it would work well especially if you team mate dies you both loose the ship and the team mate
