How do you move equippable items around the world?

If I want to arrange some helmets or weapons as decoration, I can't figure out how to move them.

I know how to move miscellaneous items, but the key (E for me) that you hold to pick up and start moving stuff does the Equip function for gear that is equippable.

I know there has to be some way to do it. They can't have just totally fubared on that. Anyone know?

You can't. I was seriously overloaded after a few missions and had to dump equippables on the ship's floor. Then I had to do the mad parent in teh teenage slob's room thing and just kick it all into a corner.

You can "pick up" (Skyrim style) by dropping an item on the floor and then hold the crosshairs over it and hold down the "E" key (takes longer than you think). However once you've picked it up you can't manipulate them (other than dragging things on a table or floor) making doing things like putting an item on a shelf impossible :(

I really wish they would change the key binding to equipping. Not being able to pick up weapons and helmets to arrange them is lame.

That does not work for Equippable items (weapons, space suits, helmets, apparel). Hence why I made this thread.

And you can actually manipulate objects once you pick them up with the E key. LMB/RMB rotate it, and pressing shift changes what axis you are rotating on.
