If you're used to and expect the fiddliness of PC gaming, it's awesome. If not, well, probably should have stuck with a Switch.
Bottom line is, the Steam Deck is a portable gaming PC. That's how it's marketed, that's how tech enthusiast see it, and that's pretty much how it functions. Some tinkering is required to set up some games, which can be especially true on Windows depending on how old whatever game you're trying to play is (and in some cases, getting older games running on Windows can be more of a headache).
Sell it and buy something different.
That's just because you're used to Windows. A lifelong Linux user would probably feel the same way if you stuck them in front of a Windows machine.
It's not more complex, just different.
For me, there's been no complications using the Deck at all. If I need to do anything slightly more difficult, I just google the steps (e.g. if something needs to be done via the console) and that's it. That's the same step one would take on Windows if they're trying to do something they've never done before.
I'm a lifelong Windows user and I don't find Linux difficult to use whatsoever
It is not the same experience and convenience, not that it's bad by any means, but the software stack is very immature and I cannot stress that enough, and I've been a user of several Linux based distros, both Debian and Arch based.
Just the fact that for example you can't configure the way the deck controls behaves in Dekstop mode is insane, you can't use the trackpad to click on things for crying out loud! (as long as Steam is opened, for some reason). Just that is insane to me.
Also navigating between the Desktop and Wine/Proton prefixes can be a pain, and doesn't always work the way it should. And the Deck crashes very very often, it is a very unstable system with many problems. The software stack is years off being mature.
I already do this for games, can I do it for the Linux desktop too? If yes, then WHY IN THE WORLD LEFT CLICK ON RIGHT TRACK PAD ISN'T DEFAULT??????
Yes, the desktop layout is literally the layout for the desktop. That's also where you'd change it for any other controller on any other Linux desktop.
It was, at first. The default got changed to trigger click to match the behavior when Steam isn't running, and because trackpad click is super annoying with the cursor moving as you click. But you can change it to whatever you want.
