out of curiosity, why would you want to run ubuntu in the steam deck if it already runs linux?

You don't install drivers. They are modules included with the kernel. Support for the Deck's hardware is being upstreamed over time - 6.10 got support for the gyro, for example - and kernels with that support will be included with Ubuntu on Ubuntu's update schedule.

What I mean by drivers is the software for the controller on the steam deck

You don't like Arch and like Debian better, and yet ask about drivers?? Like for real?

I don't mean this in an offensive manner, though I am aware it can be taken as such. I'd strongly suggest you get much better acquainted with Linux systems in general, in regards to distributions, There is no spoon. Also a traditional general purpose distribution in the context of the Deck makes little sense and immutable images are much better suited.

you really shouldn't change distro with almost no Linux knowledge, SteamOS isn't just arch with a Steam logo, the changes are numerous and fundamental, if you really wanna leave "arch" at the very least use a distro build to be a gaming one like Bazzite or Nobara

try installing Bazzite, it should work OOTB with the Deck and it's based on Fedora but IMO SteamOS while based on Arch, it's a completely different thing and barely resemble it

If you want to keep digging rather than just installing Bazzite, you can dig into what packages Bazzite is including.
