How far away are we from a "steam deck 2"?
The systems been out for a while now, and i cant imagine with its wild success that valve hasnt been hard at work trying to make a stronger and better version of it.

How far off do you think that'll be?

Pretty far if I had to guess. A Valve Index 2 of sorts is more likely.

"a true next-gen Deck with a significant bump in horsepower wouldn’t be for a few years."

I would think around 3 years to be realistic.

They'd probably make a new Dock first. But they'd never make a third one.

How old is Switch?
I guess we will have to wait the same time.

Years, at least 3-4.

Im confident we'll see a hardware revision before an actual successor. Maybe another year or two for the revision, and 4-5 years for "Steam Deck 2". They also have a standalone VR headset in the pipe. Kind of like a Quest 2 for Steam VR. Just remember, Valve Time is fully in effect here.

Standard console release cycles are about 6 years apart. The Deck has been out for a year now, so I think a Deck 2 being 4-5 years away is fairly likely. Three years would be an extremely fast release cycle; if they do that, it'll probably end up being rushed out the door.

Barely a year. We're not in the 90s anymore when PCs got outdated within a year. Why so impatient?

because he wants to buy one, but buying one now would be stupid if the next iteration comes within a year. I think he can buy one as we did and enjoy it for the next 3 years at least.

Take this for what it's worth, Digital Foundry said "not until at least 2025"...

Love the Steam Deck, but I hope a successor would drop around holiday 2024 at the latest. A new SoC every 2yrs would be ideal.

Hope they include a much better screen when they make the Deck 2.
The amount of copium Valve fanboys require to justify the current screen is off the charts, lol.

What's wrong with the screen exactly? I haven't had any issues.

Abysmal color reproduction, It's remarkably inferior even to the screen on the 2017 Switch.
If you compare it to the the OLED Switch, it's even worse.
All those indies that make up a nice chunk of all Steam Verified games will look way better on the Switch (and perform just as well btw).

Also the 16.10 aspect ratio is, to put it nicely, a perplexing choice, resulting in a great number of games having black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.
