Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Steam Deck 1 or wait for Steam Deck 2?
Should I get a steam deck now? or wait until the end of 2023 as I looked up the release date and specs. It said something about it coming out in 2023 probably. Any opinions?

UPDATE: Ending up getting one, and its pretty nice, I'm finding my way around some non-supported games as well and checking out the limits. Also found some videos on coding, gonna try and see if I can get some kind of way to code on it lol.

It could happen, no ones from the future. But there investing heavily in getting the steam deck stable and having one set of chips to deal with is a huge part in that. If they keep trying to jump ahead youd have a ayaneo situation where ever 3 months they make the last one out of date. It doesnt help your sales or stabelize the platform. They might make a few small tweaks in the next year or so, but it would likely be more like a better battery or ergonomics tweak. I wouldnt hold off if you want one, its not getting replaced any time soon.

Valve has announced absolutely nothing about making a new Steam Deck, and if they intend to follow a typical console release cycle, it will probably be 5 or 6 years before they release a major hardware revision.

So I was thinking the same thing and Valve have said in an interview a new version of the current deck aiming at a better screen and battery life might be on the way sometime... eventually. It's something at least but I doubt it's soon myself.

There isn't going to be a Deck 2 this year. Or next year. Valve have consistently said how important it is to have one hardware platform for developers to target, and it isn't even available for a lot of customers that might want to buy one since you can only get it in a handful of regions.

Either way, it’s had an auspicious 12 months by any reasonable metric, and just in case you were wondering, it isn’t in danger of getting dumped and replaced by a new model either. While the Steam Deck’s success has "has made us even more excited to look closely at what can be improved", according to Yang, he reckons "a true next-gen Deck with a significant bump in horsepower wouldn’t be for a few years."

Stop waiting for SD 2, there won't be any version 2 for the next couple of years (at least) and you are wasting precious time with a brand new Steam Deck which is pretty awesome at this moment.
I would just get one now. You can buy the cheapest model and just upgrade the internal storage drive yourself; that's what I did. Also, the battery isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Yeah, on newer games it drains fast but on older PC games and emulators it can last a long time especially if you optimize your battery settings. I have a Nintendo Switch version 1 and I hate the battery life on it now.

If you always wait for the next best thing you will never buy anything. Get a deck now it’s brilliant I haven’t played on my desktop which is way more powerfull Since I got a steam deck .

Statement that said it coming out in 2023 is probably a guessing Statement. Only follow official information by valve, to know exact when steam deck 2 will come.

There is alot of articles out there about steam deck 2 but we don't know yet if they are true. Since I saw 1 user share am article where they mentioned a confirmation by valve that steam deck 2 is in works. But a release date is not yer announced, so we all have to sit and wait until valve posts an announcement about it.

Valve designer Lawrence Yang recently did an interview for the Deck’s anniversary, and said a “next gen Deck is pretty far off”.

It’s clear they did that to stop people who are refusing to buy the current model because they believe Steam Deck 2 is around the corner.

I doubt there will be a Deck 2 until 2025, however the original Deck might get improvements hardware wise in the meantime.

If they were to improve the hardware, that would be the Deck 2.
