We need a checkpoint just before the bosses
The game isn't that hard, I just need to learn the pattern of the bosses and their attacks, however it is frustating to walk back for 1mn for each attempt.
Elden ring sort of did it with some of their bosses.

There is a checkpoint just before bosses, lol. The furthest one in the game is probably Door Guardian and that's still a straight shot up the hill and up the stairs.

long walk backs are only acceptable if the bosses were easier
dark souls 1 had long walk back to boss but the bosses aren't as hard

With shortcuts the run back is pretty short.

If they checkpointed you right at the boss there would be literally no reason to explore the level and unlock shortcuts; basically just skip everything and get checkpointed at the boss. Being forced to unlock shortcuts is a reward for actually exploreing/clearing the area.

I think the main reason Marika stakes were around was because some runbacks could be frustrating given the open-world. Like, imagine getting lost or distracted while on your walk of shame. The Stargazers are pretty reasonable, and the ones that are at some particularly nasty bosses (Swamp Monster, Archbishop, Laxasia, etc) are pretty much next to the boss doors... Except the Puppet King, of course.

It could always be worse. It could be runbacks like Demon's Souls.

This is how I always looked at it. Gives you a minute or two to rethink your strategy and what could you have improved upon or done differently.

So... Do I gotta be the one to mention the best deathrun in all of Soulsborne, the one and only Frigid Outskirts?

Most of bosses in Lies of P have checkpoint reasonably close. There are some bosses that have longer runs and even fewer that you actually have to fight or dodge enemies on the way.
I would prefer if major boss has checkpoint always next to door but it would probably compromise level design a bit. Alternatively, there could be shortcuts to be opened just before boss area to get to latest stargazer.

The longest runback in my memory is to the sewer mutant. Although not a boss technically, there was no way around him. If you didn't unlock the shortcut, that was easily a 5 minute runback. Even with the shortcut unlocked, it's still a lengthy pointless walk back from the chapel stargazer.
